Love:

Cerulean blue skies
Summer thunderbumpers
Every kind of mountain and mesa and red rockfound in the West
Lenticular clouds
Neon yellow aspens and cottonwoods in the fall

Hate:

Rapid day to day temperature swings in the winter
Chinook winds and blown out roofing
Endlessly potholed asphalt and noisy concrete roads
Aggressive driving
Media-centric holier and better than thou civic attitude
Californication

We'll let you know when we come up with a solution to the "majority rules" issue.

Agreed.

The more conservative and smaller town/rural people are much friendlier in CO.

The Denverites tend to be cold and standoffish, especially to outsiders.

I'm from WY originally and have a vacation home in CO. The left-leaning, bigger city, middle/upper-middle class, age 25-60 crowd tend to have the view that WY/OOS people come to CO to use its resources and leave. They like to get "All up in your business".

In a very similar geographic place (WY) the people are more laissez-faire about other's lives.

My theory is this: Old Money vs. New money.

While no place in the West is like New England, WY has a lot more (proportionately) Old Money than CO. Ranches, Oil, Coal, etc are quite often kept in the family. The kids are raised with Ranch Chivalry. They hold the door open for people, say sir/m'am etc. Likewise, they are really "over" being wealthy. They were rich, they are rich and they will always be rich, the novelty has worn off. They drive and F-250 over a Ferrari, wear Levis over Prada, etc.

CO doesn't really have much Old Money, all of the big-shots are New Money. They're not as well-mannered and are acutely aware of their wealth. It's still a novelty to be rich, they carefully preen their social circles, etc. They are very self-righteous and have very inflated egos. Most of this type live in the bigger cities (mostly Denver) and lean left.

Please be more specific. Not a good job market where? Alamosa? Craig? Walden? The Springs? Denver's pretty solid.

Denver. I smell it every day both in my neighborhood and downtown when I'm at work. I'm not against legalization, but the rules aren't really enforced and people openly smoke it outdoors, so it's annoying.
