I read in the Post and Courier this morning that CARTA's bus rapid transit from Summerville (or somewhere out there) to Charleston is about seven years out. Even once it is decided that it is going to happen, as it has been in the Charleston region, it takes a long time to get it set up and started.
Cars are faster, traffic in Columbia isn't all that bad, and parking is cheap and plentiful. The End.
Yes, exactly. I think a creative solution would be to better integrate USC and city buses to get student to use the system. Of course routes are important as well- destination as opposed to local buses seem like a logical first step.
At any rate.. one minor change that the COMET could make would be to stop wrapping the buses in ads where you can see inside. I have heard some skiddish denizens of the Soda Cap that they are fearful of boarding a rolling box car for fear of who may be waiting for them inside
You can easily see inside the Soda Cap connector buses. I see them pass by multiple times per day, and always look to see how many people are inside. Based on my observations over the past few weeks, your friends don’t have anything to worry about regarding someone sketchy being inside waiting for them. 90% of the time they pass by completely empty. I have yet to see more than 3 people on a Soda Cap at one time. It’s kind of sad tbh.
I have rode the bus every day for the last two years. When I started the 101 always had room. Now it's pretty common to have to stand. The soda cap connector will pick up. Both lines stop at great destinations. Also it's free. You should jump on it one day, JustSaying. They're really nice buses. You can even charge your devices and utilize the free WiFi. You can grab it on Main every 15 minutes to the Vista and every 30 minutes to either 5 Points or Benedict-Allen. Most people don't realize it was designed to help get office workers and tourists from Main to the Vista and 5 Points for lunch breaks. Also did I mention it is FREE to ride?
What happened to the Columbia Mall or Columbia Place thread? I just saw that Best Buy across from there is closing. The last time I drove through there, Best Buy was about the only redeeming place of business in that area. I don't know what in the world the answer is for that stretch.

Best Buy on two notch is closing? That blows. I imagine the rest of the stores aren’t that far behind
Hell, we’ve been hearing this the last 5 or 6 years. Seems like even with the addition of the tower at Main and Gervais in 2010 or so office space has been at a premium. Maybe now with the demand for office space and hotels we can see a dual use hotel/office building. Is there such a thing or only in my dreams? And a 30 story building, at that. Yes, that’d be nice.
