I agree wholeheartedly. However, let's not take this rendering too seriously. It's hard to read and it doesn't even use the name that has been used by Hughes and the city.
With that said, I will be furious if there is surface parking.
It is exactly the same site plan posted elsewhere and is an official site plan, its being used by the leasing company for pete's sake. At the six-o-clock position going toward Colonial blvd is obviously surface parking. Pad 1, Pad 2, and "M" are all stand-alone restaurants, which is much too suburban for this kind of project.
The positive is that there are so many spots filled with LOI's, which means they're less likely to go off half-cocked. That is the one thing Hughes has done right, line up the tenants ahead of launch so it looks full and relatively dense.
I don't want to see this development closed off - it needs to be open to the surrounding neighborhoods and be highly urban in design.
Hey, I suppose the silver-lining of Hughes not using the Duany plan is that there is no single-family housing, which should benefit those of us who own property in the Cottontown/Elmwood Park/Earlewood area.

I suppose that should make me feel better, but it doesn't.
The rendering doesn't show the daylighted creek and parks that were supposed to be a part of the plan. I thought I recalled Hughes saying work had already begun on the daylighting of the creek, no?

I think the developer jumped the gun with his tenants announcement.
