Aero was an epic fail. The UI has to provide a function and be as unobtrusive as possible. But aero was grabbing user's attention.
Metro is much better.

I agree with Trucker27 and couldn't have said it better. If you don't like it turn it off! Jeez, how hard is that?
Most people use default settings. And it's not like you can't change Metro UI - there are 3rd party tools.
In theory UI shouldn't be an attraction.
If you paid attention to its beauty - you were distracted. If you didn't - then why criticise Metro?
Aero is turned off using a Windows setting, not a third party tool. The average user doesn't want to screw with third party stuff, they want Windows to do what they need. MS doesn't seem to understand that after all these years.
I realized something the other day. My system apparently has a problem with 'dust' left after errors and when the regrestry fix didn't solve my problem I find I have to have a service tech do a 'tune up' for 'just' a couple hundred.
Ugh, the microwave died and had been replaced, food prices are up and I had to buy the regrestry program and hopefully a friend who's a tech can do it for me. But I can't watch videos. The rep I talked to on the help line really irritated me about the 'just' two hundred, so I'm very unthrilled with microsoft and their greed. I'm still thinking of getting my money back if I can on the program after it shut down what I was doing without asking me. Apparently they didn't set it up to. The thing that makes no sense is that if I'm using my system I don't want it running and if I'm not its shut off. Why no pop up asking permission? Isn't that rather important to the user? Or do users wants and desires and needs no longer count? Just how much can be sucked out of bank accounts?
But the browser won't run right. What I realized was that most of what I run I store in favorites. I don't make desktop buttons since I don't like them. I scan down the list and find the site instead. I have rotating pictures of natural wonders on the screen, and don't want icons getting in the way.
Any system like win 8 which is icon oriented will not be for me. Period. nada. I've called around for tune up prices (which can be found for less but still not less enough this month) and ask if they are doing a much win 8 removal, and everyone said they were. Yet another thing against it since I don't want to leave my computer in a shop for four days.
NightBird, as Peregrine mentioned, please open a new thread and we can tune up your PC for FREE.
....but oil change costs extra!
Thanks, will do. I guess I'll keep the regrestry cleaner. But it doesn't get to run on a schedule.
I installed Firefox and it picks up videos, but it alphabatized the Favorites and I as I let them group that way by when I marked them seldom use it. Still plan to go back to IE when the problem is found.
Me neither. I have trouble trusting them. I always did a reformat/ reinstall at least once a year, and never had a registry get corrupted enough to need a cleaner. That's with XP. With Vista I only ever did the reinstall once.
Same here ... I generally don't trust some random software to determine what is or isn't needed in my registry.
