Got my wood stove going this morning... Was 45 felt like 41 at 7am.

Counting the days where either I turn on the stove or thermostat
(20 minutes or more)

Wood Stove - 2
Thermostat - 0

This is an older pic. Now I got tiles on the wall and a neater stack on the floor. LOL Its 16" away from the wall which is requirement from this stove anyway.

Nice stove.

I think this would've better been off in the "weather" thread, but that's just me......

I was thinking that it's time to consider turning the heat on. My place gets hot in the evening but it's pretty chilly when I wake up in the morning. It's not under 70 but still a bit cold. I may just set the heat to come on if it goes below 67 in the morning.

Yeap...I do love the cold but I have 3 comments to that...A. I dont live alone. B. I dont want to spend $ on oil. C. Its nice to come inside and look at a fire and feel cozy after a nice day outside in the cold. Some wine, cheese and crackers in front of the flames is priceless.

?? I bought a $20 flue cleaner 3 years ago. Has 6 5 foot rods and the brush..I only need 4 of the rods since the flue is 20 feet from stove to top but point is...Its free to maintain it... Nothing else you have to do... Inspect the firebricks make sure none are cracked (unlikely after a year but only $3 each), clean the window? Wipe down the rain cap and outter flue on roof to make it look shiny and pretty? Not much and Free.

I remember when oil was over $3.50 a gallon. I saved over $3000 that year...I figure now I'm saving little over $1800/yr. One of my neighbors says he pays $500 a month for oil in the winter... ouch.

I just had an oil fill last week...Last one was Nov. 2009. My next one will be Oct. 2011.

Ohhh, I'm jealous of that stove : ) I don't have one here and I miss having one (I did for 10 years at another place). I love my home but I do miss coming in after a long cold day of work, and warming up in my rocker by the stove...

I got an estimate for $5000 for a stove, hearth and piping-maybe someday I'll do it!
