Still saying it...California and specifically Los Angeles drivers are the WORST in any state I've lived in and been to. They just do not care. I've had my car hit TWICE (by no fault of my own!) since living out here (less than two years!) I was just lucky both were insured and their companies took care of it.

LA drivers are pretty terrible. Highly unskilled. Once you get outside of LA (like Orange or Ventura), pace is much slower and if you honk your horn, you’ll get dirty looks.

In New York City, most people don't own cars. I remember years ago doing campus interviews of engineering students in Brooklyn at what was then the Polytechnic Institute of New York. The students were putting "drivers license" on their resume. As a suburban kid, I hadn't seen that one before but it makes sense since a license isn't a right of passage for any 16-year-old in NYC. I think that because of that, the skill level of the average NYC driver is higher. They had driver ed in an urban place where you have to pay attention. They're taught how to drive in traffic because that's all they know.

In my life experience, suburban Connecticut is like driving in metro Boston except that in Connecticut, drivers use their horn. In Boston, using your horn means you acknowledge the existence of the other car and might have to yield. That is a sign of weakness. You're supposed to treat all other cars as invisible.

I live in Trumbull but I am on Main Street in the northern part of Bridgeport all the time. The northern part of Bridgeport is the most crime free for the most part. I know lots of people in the north end of Bridgeport.....IMO they are very nice folks. It should be peaceful in the north end in summer too. You can PM me with questions anytime. Or put them on City-Data Forum starting another thread about "Northern Bridgeport....how is it?" so you can get other opinions too.

There is another poster with Bridgeport in his name. He should be able to tell you a lot about Bridgeport too. I can't remember his precise name on here but I bet other's can. Since this topic is not specifically about Bridgeport he might not look in on it.

I got it. His name on here is "BPt111". 111 is a reference to Main Street in Bridgeport that runs up into Main Street Trumbull also. I live off Main Street/111 too.

In my experience of living in 4 states, this overgeneralization of drivers is untrue. It’s more rural vs urban. In all urbanized areas, drivers are impatient d-bags. In rural areas, they tend to be more friendly. That’s how it is everywhere, even globally.

Default Attitude

It is the attitude of CT people towards other people. In the car, or out of the car they behave the same way in treatment of others.
