This new budget isn't even passed and already my town is increasing the mill rate. No businesses are speaking up against it which makes me think they are not going to get hit. Has anyone heard any rumblings from companies?

Also, the extreme drop in tax receipts, both sales and income, makes me wonder what other revenue sources will be needed.

Still, eve after all that, homes sales are increasing and so is the prices. Who is buying these homes? My guess is renters turned home buyers. Could be a good thing.

Where I live I noticed a recent uptick in prices (area of starter homes) After a few higher sales in January the number of listings jumped, but so far some are moving often in a couple weeks. The middle of the market still seems to be stagnant but starter homes seem to be going up all the sudden. Big change from this time last year when they sat for 3 months.

On millrate my valuations went down some I'm expecting millrate may go up.

We are riding the rising wave of this real estate cycle. It does nothing to the long-term outlook.

Dan Haar: General Electric

Interesting article on GE-which accounting for jobs at divisions sold-seems per author, about 1,200 jobs lighter in Ct headcount then when Malloy was elected.

Has anyone heard any news on ESPN? Reading some reports that they might have another large round of layoffs.

But that's not a CT issue, it's a national/international ratings/revenue issue. And it sounds like it will be content providers - on air TV and radio talent as well as online reporters. Most of those people will find work elsewhere and many may not even live in CT.

Maybe, but once the on air talent leaves it's only a matter of time before the background people get hit. Many of those do live in CT.

Are all the on-air personalities all CT residents? I'd say many are based/live in other parts of the country. Now if they lay off support and production people, that would be an issue because I'm guessing most of them are CT based and they would have to move out of state in order to get those types of jobs.
