Layoff Warning Notices Sent To 45,700 State Of Connecticut Workers | Bridgeport Daily Voice

My cousin just posted the above on Facebook. I had not seen it. If it is already posted on here sorry about the double post.

I just found this below.

"The state is in a big big mess"--Al Terzi
Truer words were never spoken.

This won't happen.

The GOP is offering that employees take 2 furlough days a month instead of the lay offs. If I were them, it would be a no brainer.

Malloy is hoping to bring the state unions back to the bargaining table so they can give up some of their benefits - I think the notices are probably for technicalities and to make the threat of layoffs seem real.

I think that would be a better idea.

I am sure that Governor Malloy will give a lot of consideration to what the Republicans have to say. My cousin (an R) was in the city government (board of finance) in Stamford when Malloy was mayor. He did comprise and listen to Republicans. The proof is that Stamford has a lower millrate (25.43) than I have in Trumbull under a Republican First Selectman. (32.87). My brother has much better taxes than I do and we have about the same house on the same piece of land in a similar nice location.

Don't forget, Governor Malloy did not make this mess. He inherited it.

You're right he didn't inherit the mess, bur he's made it worse. The two tax increases were not helpful, since there were no corresponding spending cuts. The second increase was especially damaging. I give him credit for finally addressing state spending, but I wish he had taken action 5 years ago.

Why didn't the Republican Governor before him do anything? I know things are not perfect but at least he is finally finally tackling the problems that were laid on his doorstep. And trust me I didn't like the tax increases either.

Who cares what Rell or Rowland did or didn't do 10 years ago? Malloy's been in office for 5 years. He's had plenty of opportunities to address the spending issues starting with the union contract negotiations in 2011. He's had multiple budget cycles. I'm glad he's finally addressing spending, but he deserves plenty of criticism for waiting so long to do so.

This thread will probably be moved. I hope they won't layoff anyone. If anything need to change state benefits, eliminate pensions, reduce wages/cap salaries, and force people to early retire. Need to allocate emergency fund's to DMHAS, Corrections, UCONN Health to ensure they are adequately staffed.

I'm a state employee. Someone at work heard on the radio,in passing, that Malloy may be open to a retirement incentive now. Did anyone hear that? Yes, I know he said he would never offer one.
