Depends upon what you mean by being "priced out" of those areas.

Queens has been on a tear lately with rising rents, both due to vast amounts of new construction and those who cannot afford Manhattan moving out to that borough and Brooklyn.

What happens with Amazon and Queens largely will depend upon what sort of workforce is employed at LIC.

There are bound to be some sort of "hire local, equality, disadvantaged, or whatever" agreements with NYS and or NYC, but much will depend upon how Amazon staffs up and where they source those employees.

Queens is NYC. So is Brooklyn, The Bronx and Staten Island, in addition to Manhattan.

Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan are the 3 boroughs best situated to benefit. Brooklyn and Manhattan are already beyond most budgets. Queens has the potential to all of a sudden become very desirable.

Oh I don't know....

Much will depend upon what Amazon plans for this LIC "HQ2".

Being as that may there just isn't enough native "NYC residents" for many types of jobs already, hence all that activity around trains, buses and highways each day that lead in and out of the city.

Google and Facebook are already here in NYC, and expanding. They along with other tech companies from start-ups to whatever all compete for same talent. If companies like Goldman or Chase hire from outside NYC resident pool, why would anyone think Amazon won't do the same.

Yeah, they will throw some bones to city and state about "inclusiveness" or whatever, but Jeff Bezos has a company to run, and for that he needs competent talent.

One of the reasons Amazon, Google, Facebook and other large tech companies choose places like Silicon Valley, Seattle, Boston, New York, and so forth is because those are places where "tech talent" wants to live. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/12/a...-benefits.html

City has been trying to make LIC "happen" since the 1980's when Citibank moved out there; it didn't largely work.

Fast forward to 2000's when then mayor Bloomberg rezoned vast amounts of Brooklyn and Queens waterfront from commercial to residential, then things began to change slowly.

LIC benefits from having a direct subway connection (and being one stop at that) into Manhattan. That puts in into the mix for those priced out of Manhattan or even now Brooklyn.

LIC and other parts of Queens are starting to see an uptick because the only subway into Williamsburg (L train) is going to shut down next spring for over a year or so.

Great to see for NYC 25k jobs, NOVA 25k jobs, and Nashville which will be Amazon's East Coast hub, also getting 5k new jobs.

Hopefully, Ct residents will be a small part of the 25k.

I do suspect the overwhelming majority will come from NYC itself.

55K New Direct Jobs, and, in all likelihood, several times more at suppliers of each of these huge corporate hqs and corp East Coast Hub operation center.

Terrific news, and hopefully even the cities not chosen learned more about where they should step up their game for the next opportunity.

Congrats, to each of the 3 cities Amazon picked for their spectacular corporate jobs.

Each of them, along with the 17 not picked on the 2nd round list, no doubt did an outstanding job showcasing what they had to offer.

You really think any of the other areas had a chance? Hilarious. Amazon knew at least partially what they were doing and used this to leverage their power to pit cities against each other for a better deal.
