That does not make them great places to live. There is more to quality of life than a few pennies, or at least there should be. Jay

...in your opinion. Florida is booming so clearly more people want to live there than CT. NJ is slightly better off, too.

This evening I drove along Route 1 in Stamford on my way home from Darien. As I passed on the overpass above I-95 by exit 9, I noticed that one side of the railings they installed a metal fence and on the other side the fence is in the process of installation.

I see this in a very positive way because that bridge was becoming way too popular among suicidals, presumably because jumping off that bridge unto I-95 had a very high success rate (in part because if the fall didn't killed them, a fast moving vehicle on the interstate certainly finished the job.)

My only complaint is that it looks like a normal metal fence. The top of the fence should had those bent fences that is often seen in bridges that pass over railroad tracks. Otherwise anyone that is determined to use that bridge for their suicide will climb over and jump or throw themselves unto the highway.

This is the top that I'm talking about:

This is the overpass where the fences are being placed.

I have not seen the new fence they put up, but if they only put up a fence, then i agree that it is not enough. Those bent fences that you see often on other roads & bridges are the ones you need on overpasses to deter suicides. I believe the overpass near exit 6 has one of these fences installed.

5. Applications 212-18 & 212-19 – VELA ON THE PARK, 1011 Washington Boulevard, -Special Exception and Site Plans/Requested Uses related to the redevelopment of Urban Renewal Plan Reuse Parcels 19 & 19B (commonly referred to as Parcels P-II and P-IV) with two apartment buildings including a total of 417 dwelling units and approximately 10,838 square feet of ground floor retail space as well as an expansion of the Summer Street Parking Garage with 324 new structured parking spaces and associated site improvements. The building located on Parcel P-II will be approximately 182 feet tall and the building located on Parcel P-IV will be approximately 212 feet tall. The property is located in the CC-N zoning district (Central City District North) with an address of 100 Summer Street (P-II) and 0 Washington Boulevard (P-IV) (Requesting modification of the approved landscaping plans and also discussion regarding the BMR fee-in-lieu funds).

I found this buried in the zoning board applications. Scheduled for July 30th. Anyone hazard a guess as to where this is?

This application dates back a few years. Vela on the Park is at the corner of Washington and West Park Place and is now complete and leasing. 66 Summer has been open a couple of years. It's right next to the Majestic theater on Summer. The extended parking garage is adjacent.

Sounds right. What confused me was talk of 100 Summer Street. It’s also going to be reviewed at the next ZB meeting but may simply relate to landscaping changes (as noted at the foot of the agenda).

"Millennial employees make up a large swath of the total, with the company drawing heavily from area universities and other colleges with graduates who have tri-state roots."

“We believe that southwestern Connecticut is a great place for people to live and work and build their lives,” said Nolan Farris, Indeed’s senior vice president of sales. “We think we’re able to continue to attract a highly educated, tech-savvy employee base.”

Chick-fil-A cooked! City fearful of drive through traffic at already jammed Bulls Head intersection denies application. Sense returns to planning board.
