Seriously, does a movie really need to open in theaters anymore? I'm sure with all this "publicity" it will earn many times more than it theoretically would have.
They hacked into Sony' network (for those that are unaware Sony is a Japanese Company).
Sony allowed their distribution partners to not show the movie due to threats against Sony. However, Sony's awful IT system was hacked and all of their secretes reveled.
Basically, this is a case of terrorists beating an idiot company.
Did anybody catch Jimmy Kimmel's opening comments tonight? Yes, the satirical humor was there, but a lot of it was straight out comment, and not delivered in the same voice. The movie probably wouldn't appeal to me, his style not mine, but the director and crew and actors work is being pulled because of economics, with the major chains saying no, disguised as concern for america security.
Like I said, its usually not my cup of tea, but when they do release it on some format, I'll make sure to watch it.
It was a business decision. One article I saw said the attacks on Sony were "financially devastating." That's really all you need to know. It's not so much about caving in to terrorists as it is about money. It's always about the money. Sony didn't want their shareholders flipping out.
Whoever thought it would ever be a good idea to make a satirical film about assassinating a world leader, regardless of the leader involved.
Yea I get that people should have a sense of humor but to make this film and making the leader an actual person and not fictional, they were asking for it. I don't think many people would find it humorous if another country made film about taking out our leader.

Agreed that it was always in bad taste. But that part didn't really surprise me much. The entertainment business keeps succeeding in setting the bar lower and lower.
Instead of pulling the movie, they should simply have made the movie readily downloadable for free by everyone in the world.
