Someone really compared showing a movie about assassinating a world leader to MLK Jr. marching on Washington???? Did that really just happen ??? There must be a gas leak, somewhere.
Yeah, and these are the people who want to wave the flag of "freedom". Meanwhile they forget Sony is a multi-billion dollar foreign corporation. And like any other major corporation they couldn't care less about American patriotism. They care about their bottom line. And clearly some very sensitive information of theirs has fallen into rogue hands. They seem to care more about minimizing their information breach than showing this film. In Sony's mind that's more important then making some statement with this film.
Lastly, they own the rights to the film. They don't have to show it. That's part of their free speech.

Yes, they have that right. And we have the right to tell them they are cowards and so are the movie theaters and we have the right to boycott them and make their Christmas a little blue.
Think about it, even though we all are not fans of North Korea, how would we feel if they made a movie about killing our President ? Yes, it is only a movie, but they don't have the same thought processes we do when it comes to freedom of expression and "it is only a movie." To them, they probably thought this movie was backed by the American Government, and something we are considering.
"To a thief, all men are thieves."
I suspect that's precisely what they thought. I don't think any high DPRK official can conceive of a movie company operating without the explicit approved message of the government.

I seriously doubt whether or not you choose to see 'Annie' will make much difference to Sony's bottom line at this point
This could mean repercussions for
the career of Seth Rogan and James
Franco. Producers could decide that
any movie with them could insult Kim
Jong Un (and they don't want to upset
Kim Jong Un).

Which one is not a free speech issue?

Because I couldn't remember Thomas Hobbes' name. Is it a stretch to compare Leviathan with "The Interview".. From a classical literature standpoint, of course it is.. From a free speech standpoint.. Not so much.
What has happened here is that threats of violence caused Sony to pull the movie.. While it was a crappy movie.. And everyone defends the rights of Sony to pull the movie(Which I do agree with).. Would you be just as permissive of it if MLK had decided not to march on Washington because he was threatened with violence? Would we be better off if he had made that decision?
I think everyone should be standing up and outraged at this.. Not because a crappy movie that none of us were likely to see was squashed.. But because people threatening violence can now be empowered to know that maybe they can stop the next movie they don't like.. Maybe they can stop the next MLK.. Maybe they can change government policy.. All just by threatening violence.
Put it on Netflix and watch them try to find all two million of us.
