What should they have done? Looked for an ugly teen to adopt? The OP claims to be innocent and just pondering this topic, but they started this just looking for the bigots to come out of the woodwork, and they have.
Have you ever discussed that topic with them? It's very personal. You would have to be an extremely good friend to be trusted with that information. I'm not saying it flippantly. Every 2 minutes someone over the age of 12 is sexually assaulted in the US. That's a lot of victims. But children are often voiceless victims.
It's a shame there are stereotypes in (for example) the Catholic church and sports organizations. Very well publicized crimes. I doubt we'd be having this discussion if that stereotype wasn't in place. Frequently stereotypes are there for a reason.
Yes, I have. I also knew these men from the cradle on. They played with dolls and wanted to dress like me as small boys. Their sexuality was never in question except maybe by some family members who didn't want to admit it.
Pedophiles are attracted to children. The sex of those children matter less than that they are children. The sex of victim has more to do with access than sexual orientation. In general, men have easier access to boys, so male pedophiles end up abusing boys more often. Abusing a male child does not mean a man is homosexual, the attraction is because the boy is a child.
Gay men are no more likely to be sexually attracted to children than straight men.

I'm unsure about your second statement. But I do know that when a man is gay and a pedophile his rate of offense is higher.
I know nothing about the people being discussed and hope that all is well for them. I just think it's important to point out erroneous statements when they are made in a public forum. When the problem is criminal I think it's crucial that we have the best information possible, gay or straight.

You all do know that the vast majority of pedophiles are heterosexual men, right?

Hopefully they will move past that and give him the needed care he deserves and not treat him like an accessory.. like a purebred dog or a PRADA bag.

But if you look at the summary of this study filed in the National United States Library of Medicine you will see that their results suggested an 11:1 ratio of offense when comparing homosexual pedophiles with heterosexual ones.
When I looked into this (likely after this article was published), I saw different stats. The article also has this date: J Sex Marital Ther. 1992 Spring;18(1):34-43. That's severely outdated and useless to me.
If you look at the Catholic Church fiasco quiesced by now but not closed, by your first sentence, it would mean priests are homosexual.

Anyone who thinks this is wrong must be people who are too old and out of touch and ignorant. At least statements like yours ring loud and clear as to how blind and homophobic you are. Quick, the rest of us need to go out and flag heterosexual couples who have adopted nice-looking kids and force them to get rid of them. Soon, they'll use their looks to convert others and do untold damage to them! They'll soon be passing on the HPV and who knows what else. (Except, I can't do that since I have a family member who falls into that gorgeous category with two good-looking parents.)

Do not tell me there were not young kids with need of a family... Why did they have to adopt the oldest boy they could legally adopt who in less than 2 year will be adult thus no more pedophilia...?
Being gay right advocate is one thing, being blindly naive supporting anything fearing being accused of homophobia is another and truth is, this couple is fishy.
From the wording on this post it sounds like your under the impression that because hes good looking that's why they adopted him and now they plan on 'converting' him .
