I doubt this will happen. That will take organization, leadership, and a real goal. The rioters in Baltimore seem to possess none of these quaities. If they did, they would have corralled their troops to focus on the issue at hand instead of looting stores and cutting fire hoses. If they had a cause, they destroyed it.
This has been said every time since the Watts riots in the 1960s. The reality, is the places where the riots take place sink further into poverty & despair because what will be accomplished by the rioting, will be to force out anyone who can make a difference because these are also the ones who have the means to move away.
If by chance, rioters decide to try these tactics in a town or suburb where middle class Whites are the majority, I'd wouldn't place many bets on the rioters. People in these areas are armed and have trained themselves to use guns. The sales of guns and the large number of shooting ranges that have gone up over the last decade indicate this.
The revolution isn't coming. What they better hope for is that the majority finally gets tired of the nonsense and decides to swat it down.
I do understand that there of people of Baltimore that are angry, have less opportunities and resources, and have experienced injustices by law enforcement and the system. There is no doubt in my mind. But, truth is, their response was to destroy their own city and cause chaos which in my opinion was shameful. Yes, there were thugs out there looting, stealing, and dancing on cars, and some of them took advantage of this situation. I will not rationalize or condone their behavior, regardless of understanding the root cause.
This is a bit of a rant:
It is frustrating to watch others blame shortcomings in life on race. As a black woman myself, I do not blame any of my failings in life on my race, and neither should anyone else. I have been called dumb, stupid, loser, ******, and told I will never amount to much. I have had a few breaks in life in which I used to better myself. I refused to believe that I had to settle for less because of the color of my skin. My entire family are made up of drug addicts. My father abandoned me, and my mother was absent as well for years. I was raised by my grandmother who taught me what she could. I was partly raised by my grandfather who told me to go to school and made my graduation cap and gown for preschool as he died of lung cancer. I believe this is probably where the majority of my belief to do better for myself came from.
The world is not against us: we are against one another and ourselves. What black people could do is band together to make their communities better. Teach the children values. Get off the welfare system. Get an education. Be more selective in men you choose to have children with. Learn more about the blacks that wanted a better future for them like: Thurgood Marshall, George Washington Carver, Martin Luther King.
I am not saying everyone should be like me, but we have a choice. We can to keep ourselves down, or we can collectively build ourselves up.
All these things are easier said then done. And none of these choices are easy. I put myself through years of college, which was a major sacrifice, have not been on welfare, and chose not to have children out of wedlock. Does this make me better? No, I simply made a choice, and if we teach our children better and lead by example we can strengthen black communities.
We may have disagreed in the past and I disagree with you on this point. You made a better choice which makes you a better person. Be proud in the fact.
Do you even know the history of your own country? You seem to have a terrible disdain for the left wing. It would be a great, horrific shame if you had no idea what you're talking about and yet carry animosity for ideals you don't even understand.
I hope you realize that the American Revolution was started by rich white men that did not want to pay taxes.
It's horrible. It took my uncle. I still remembered when I cried when they let his killer go free, just because his buddies gave death threat to the witness, ultimately causing her to flee for her safety and removing the only evidence they had against them. I really wish something was done about it, so such obvious failing in our justice system can't be permitted to exist, but our government prefers to bomb yemen then help the poor people out .
Was the local government democrat or republican? It makes a difference.
It is racist when taken out of context, but what should I refer it to as. A problem caused by the majority of the populace? The people in power? The people who run the show? It really is semantics as all i'm doing is code swapping. If that bothers you, I won't call it that anymore. It just a way I used to refer to the dominant force in this culture.
This is really such a limited scope you locked yourself into. Why does it has to be limited to slavery? I'm not solely speaking of that beast, even though it is important to remember that many of the sentiments that plauge black america today can be traced back to that horrible institution. I'm primarily touching the period after reconstruction. This is when the KKK and the terms like white flight (this is a term coined by historians. Take up any problems with them) and red lining came into play, the defacto, sly racism that persist today. During the 1900s hundreds, Caucasian communities would watch black people get lynched, as it was some kind of show. There is no way racism isn't an isolated problem. It is quite literally embedded in American culture. The question is, how do we weed it out?
Nice to now, but kinda irrelevant. Black selling slaves doesn't really have an effect on what the dominant forces of america do honestly.
Really? Source? I remember corporations treated chinese as expendable and subjected them to terrible working conditions that caused them to be killed, but they wasn't dragged over here on boats and systematically had the fight, culture and identify beaten out of them. They still had a pillar of family to rely on and many choose to come here for a chance at life (which they found. Asians are one of the most wealthiest ethnicities in this country). Blacks didn't have that luxury of having a family. It was a tactic to break up those families.

That because the police aren't targeting them, haven't had the same level of cultural disdain that black people has endured, and was actually accepted into white culture. Most importantly, it is because, in general, they're doing absolutely fine. Why riot when you're one of the richest groups in the countries. Blacks, on the otherhand, are one of the poorest.
I agree with the blogger that the main cause of the riot was distress over the economic status of the residents (as I already stated in a prior post). I disagree with the blogger that it is the economic reform programs that are to blame, and that Baltimore will be reborn.
Sadly, Baltimore won't come back better or experience some kind of renaissance...Detroit never got better, Chicago (Lawndale, etc.) and Washington DC never really got better after rioting, I'm guessing south central LA really isn't that much "better" than it was in 92', heck even New Orleans hasn't come back better in the 7th/8th/9th wards after a non-"race/police related" Katrina...
No one but the elite really have it better today than generations past...It used to be hard work and dedication could move you up a ladder to higher paying positions or various opportunities even without a degree (My grandfather became an engineer with Honeywell without an engineering degree and worked on the Lunar Module that landed on the moon in the 60s)...Then it was those with degrees separated themselves from the working classs (who still could feed a family, own a home, a car, etc.) Today if you have a general non-professional 4 yr. degree, it doesn't really mean anything...Many MBAs are earning less than what professionals without them were earning 20+ years ago...The game is much different today compared to the days when these damaged places were first built- Masses of people are literally being left behind today as things change faster than many are adapting...I don't see much getting better for lower/middle class...
