Thank you for pointing out that it was the friend who made the fuss on social media, Tex. The misconception was bothering me, too. By the way the friend's prom outfit is also pictured on a variety of websites.

She is too young and too heavy (not "curvy"), overweight is just that overweight so refer to it as what it is. She is NOT in the *victorian* era, she went against the school dress code voluntarily and the first thing that happened............she cried on social media. So her teenage legacy is going to be whining about a prom dress that was inappropriate but she got her 15 minutes of fame.
How proud of this moment is she going to be at 35 when she is remembered for her breasts being the most memorable part of her prom?

There ya go. Overweight is the issue. Got it. She should have worn a flour sack. I understand now.

Seems pretty clear from your own words that overweght is the issue. That you are overweight yourself doesn't make that any less the case, in fact, it could very well be the reason you do have an issue with a voluptuous and, yes, curvy young lady looking great in a dress that flatters her figure. Being overweight yourself in a culture like ours can lead to weight issues in general.

And it was her friend that "cried on social media", in other words, got the word out about the hypocrisy.
You don't know me and cannot even begin to guess if I have an issue with someone who is overweight, not voluptious or curvy however, whatever you believe MUST be true. Bless you.

Then I guess there wasn't a dress code for the prom. This girl's school obviously had one.

Precisely.

This is wonderful style of gown for someone of this body type. Kudos to her and whoever else had input on the choice.

For those who are not familiar with selecting styles of dress when one has a larger bust, the general rule of thumb is to avoid high necklines or any extra fabric around the area. Of course, this will generally mean that some cleavage will be shown.

Which leads to this:

I thought it rather Adele-esque.

That's it! I couldn't place it - lol. Maybe if it was a different color. Kind of washes her out.

Also if the straps were on her shoulders and instead of around her upper arms, leaving the cleavage, but covering up the fleshy shoulder parts, it would look better.

Dear God, do any of you realize that this thread has degraded into talking about a teenage's body type and nitpicking her fashion choices? Is it any wonder that so many young women have body issues? Give it a rest. This is disgusting, and I'm ashamed to have participated. I'm done, and let me strongly suggest that the rest of you move on, too.

An 18 year old female graduating senior in high school is a woman, you know. She can sign contracts, buy a house, a car, and get married. The wisdom of making those decisions at that age can be debated, but it is still legal to do so.

She is classy the way she is.

There is no such thing as too revealing cleavage. Breasts are not evil. Breasts are not reproductive organs.

This is not Afghanistan.

Oh?

Then this dress, being described as not suitable to view at work, is suitable for prom, by your logic:
