Twenty-year-olds often don't do the logical thing, especially if they don't have any experience with situations where they have to think clearly and quickly.
Adam is the bartender at the bar they were previously at. Maddy is assumed to have told on Kaylee to Adam "everything" and it's assumed Adam (or someone Adam told) told Jack (Kaylee's ex boyfriend), thus the ongoing phone calls to Jack in the middle of the night.
This Adam is also the guy at the frat who is rumored to have gotten into a verbal altercation with Ethan and apparently they are not friends at all. (Using the word "rumored" since it has not been released as to whether a verbal altercation actually did take place, although students posting on line have stated it did).
Adam is close friends with one of the girls in the downstairs room.
Who is "assuming" all that based on a scrap of conversation? I hope the police have more sense.

The conversation is on video. The assumption part is the phone calls made during the night may have been related to what Adam told Jack D. Police are aware.
I think they were in shock. Their friends lived very close by and they wanted someone there with them ASAP.
If they had walked upstairs and seen one of their roommates badly injured I'm sure that they would have called 911. But I think they walked upstairs and found a dead body with blood all over the place.
This raises the question: Could there have been enough time to save one or more of the victims if the others had called 911 immediately?

We haven't heard it for ourselves, but we've heard quotations from it given to us by LE.
