Looks like they were bruised badly based on the photos.
The hotel of course is trying to deny the allegations, but seems like the women are being truthful. And not only that resort but that area in general isn't exactly the safest for visitors.
Two women have come forward to say they were drugged and assaulted by a staffer at a Bahamian report, two weeks after the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning due to high levels of crime in the country.
Amber Shearer and her friend Dongayla Dobson were on a “mom’s getaway,” taking a Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas.
Oh My Gosh - I want to pray that the assailants get caught and go to prison but it probably won't happen.
They got caught.
Ladies, please be careful out there. I hate stories like this, and am always concerned when my ex-wife, mother of my kids, heads out on "girls trips" to mid/high[er] risk places.
This kind of thing has been going on for decades now at resorts in the Dominican Republic, too. And women can be snatched and left for dead even if there's no alcohol involved. Everyone be careful. I'd avoid those places altogether, myself.
People do need to do more research before going to these places.
I went to Cancun about 35 years ago. I had guys trying to buy me drinks. Something felt off. They were blond like I was. It made me really uncomfortable. I ended up sitting my drink down and walking away from it. I was just afraid of being drunk. I didn't know anything about the drugs then. Even the resorts are not really safe.

I've been to Cancun. Never went to the bars. If you want a drink, you can get one with dinner at a regular restaurant. No one's going to hover over your dinner table while you're eating, to try to buy you drinks.
I do feel bad for the girls, they were easy targets.
That being said, the "Bahamas is a ghetto with an accent." Its a very poor area and they only survive on tourism which has been terrible the last few years due to covid.
Good luck trying to sue the cruise line for something that happened at a resort on land.

That is an issue everywhere........NYC could have a spiked drink

True. I guess I was more afraid of being kidnapped. That risk felt higher there.
