As a former longtime Chicagoan, I can assure that MANY people who didn't know how to drive wouldn't use public transportation unless you pulled the steering wheel from their cold, dead fingers.

Which is why I took Metra.

Default Commuting from Dallas to Fort Worth

I need to drive from Dallas (mockingbird and the tollway) to downtown Fort Worth during what I assume is peak rush hour. I'd like to arrive between 6-6:15 pm. I've done the drive many times during off peak times and it takes 30-35 minutes. How long (gulp) should I expect it to take during rush hour? I normally take tollway to 35 to 30. Any alternate route suggestions? Thanks!

Is riding the TRE light rail a possibility?

That is the route I usually take to the Rangers games. It is almost double the commute time for me during rush hour when compared to normal traffic periods. I can't shed much light onto a trip all the way to Ft. Worth though.

Also as you probably now, just Mockingbird to the Tollway at that time of day can add an extra 10-15 minutes onto your commute depending on how far back you are coming from on Mockingbird.

I've driven it in rush hour and it can be unpredictable. Most of the time once you get on 30 traffic moves pretty well as long as there isn't an event at one of the stadiums in Arlington, but usually they open up the HOV lanes when that happens. The only alternative would be Mockingbird to 183 then merge onto 121 to DT Fort Worth. I would stick to 30 and leave by 5 pm at the latest. Even without traffic it takes me 40 minutes from Oak Lawn ave.

Thanks all. Will plan to leave by 5. Luckily I don't have to drive on mockingbird at all...so just highway driving. Hope there are no accidents!

The only place out of those listed with round the clock, reliable public transportation that is used by the majority of city dwellers is NY. I would venture that over 50% of the populace of Chi-town, SF, and Seattle drive as their primary form of commute. (just googled to fact check my thoughts)

Houston just edges out Dallas, and Fort Worth isn't better than Jacksonville.

Well I did it. Left mockingbird and the tollway at 5:10 arrived downtown FW 6:15pm. Approximately twice as long as non rush. No major accidents or anything..just spots of intermittent heavy traffic.

LOL, that video was taken when there was traffic. Here's one with normal driving during the day! Just took it today on my way to lunch.
