We've had some gorgeous weather with more to come next week.

I respectfully disagree. We usually only get fall weather in Nov and Dec. Sept is still Summer as is most of October. October involves many over 90 dedgree days which is summer weather. The only relief is that due in part to slightly lower highs and earlier sunsets. The evenings become bearable and more like warm summer nights vs steaming hot summer nights.

Hold on a sec. This is really confusing.

I didn't say we didn't have a "real" fall. I am referring to as TC80 explained...typically, after mid-October, there are a few weeks of weather in the low 70s....we didn't really get that nice long stretch of that so far this year. That is what I think of as autumn weather in the southern states.

The freeze we had the other night was pretty early, not the earliest ever, but early. The average date of the first freeze in the DFW area is November 22. Most freezing weather happens in January. So I wouldn't say this was "typical" October weather.

As for a "real winter"....I'm not expecting feet of snow or anything, so I'm not sure what you are referring to. I expect a Texas winter, not a Vermont winter.

I've really enjoyed all the foliage colors this week. It's more subtle here than a lot of places, but it does exist.

Half my neighborhood still has pumpkins and mums out and the other half has Christmas lights up, so this sounds about right.

It's been a late fall, but you gotta remember, summer also got a late start. The continuous 98 degrees and above temperstures didn't set in until around the middle or end of July/first of August. The 1st 4 to 6 weeks of summer, the heat wasn't too bad, relatively speaking. There was at least one day in there that the high temperatures didn't get out of the 60's, and that had never happened since they started keeping records of the temperatures.
