Dallas is a gateway to the Plains and to the South. I consider Dallas a Southern city.

South Dallas County is uniformly southern IMO and wouldn't fit into any other region culturally. Not even the Southwest.
I don't think Miami has ever been truly southern. "Florida" is a big place, and the panhandle is nothing like Miami.

I agree that a place like Kaufmann is probably southern.

No matter which way you shake it or bake it - it is Texan!

It’s not a mix. Dallas is entirely southern and entirely southwestern. The regions aren’t mutually exclusive. And it’s not very midwestern at all

Dallas is Texas. We are big enough to be our own region.

East Texas is "southern" in nature, West Texas is more western in nature. Dallas being right about where that split takes place so you'll get some of both.

I would say Dallas fits Texan culture. If I had to choose, I would say Texan culture more mirrors Southern culture, much more so than Midwestern culture.

I always considered Texas to be Southern, but its own brand of Southern.

If they say “y’all” and “Coke”, it’s the South.

Neither - its Texan. Its not really Southern (at least not the deep South). Its not really Western either (unlike Ft Worth). At least 1/2 the people I know aren't from Texas either (and I don't even live in the suburbs).

Miami, like Dallas, are still Southern cities.

Now the part where Dallas has Midwestern influence is the Great Plains Midwestern influence. Such as the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas type of Midwest. It's nothing like the Great Lakes Midwestern of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and sorts. I personally wouldn't downplay the influence from the Midwest in the DFW area but it's still a Southern city. Not Deep South but Southern.
