My spouse and I have debated whether an electric car would be feasible for us. The alleged drop in performance in cold temps has been a major concern of mine.

Also, would you say that it's a feasible option if you want to take long road trips? Can you charge it relatively quick at the super charger stations?
The range definitely suffers when it it cold, but can still get to Vail no problem. We have not done a road trip, but the Superchargers are on pretty much every major route when I look at the map. Are you a two car house? If so I think an EV is a no brainer.

We are now (again). I may have mentioned it upthread, but my spouse drives a hybrid. When were thinking about about going 1-car full-time, we shopped the Tesla a little bit. But we were concerned with a few things, including cold weather performance.

I have no regrets so far. We just put Nokian Hakkapeliita R3 winter tires on it. It’s a beast in the snow now.

Great to hear! Perhaps down the road it's something we'll consider again. Especially as some of the self-driving technology gets better. For what it's worth, I settled on a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0 turbo with a towing package. It's going to be our utility vehicle for the mountains, and we hope to get a tear drop to use with it.

A Tesla? I think I will wait 20 years when there *may* be enough charging stations. Not just Teslas- ANY EV.

This looks awesome- great way to spend a "night on the road":

I've had my Tesla almost 5 years now (time flies!) I do weekly trips to Keystone during ski season and starting with a full charge, arrive back at home with about 100 miles of range left if the roads are dry; less if the roads are snowy, as that increases energy usage (in both EV and Gas vehicles). There's a Supercharger at the outlets in Silverthorne, if you prefer to charge, and there is one under construction in Idaho Springs.

I'm not big on road trips (I'd rather fly), but have done two longish ones - one to LV and one to KC. Superchargers all along the way. You'd be amazed how stopping for ~20 mins every 2.5-3 hours to charge makes you feel better at the end of the drive. No stiff neck, etc.

The car itself is great. Customer service leaves much to be desired, especially in the last year or two when the Model 3 became so popular. It's very difficult to get a live person on the phone at the service centers.

My colleague has a Model 3. I was pleasantly surprised by the power it has. He takes his up skiing too and hasn't had any issues.

The weight distribution of the battery probably helps a lot. That's what I've heard with the hybrids; the battery and engine give it good weight on snow. With appropriate tires, they generally handle pretty well. I haven't tested our Prius yet going up the side steep grade though.
