After checking to make sure someone isn't missing this dog, keeping him and enjoy! Sounds like he's going to have a great home.

Jesus, there were at least 100 better ideas then just letting the puppy loose again. What a jerk.

That's what the officer said. He said that's what his office recommend people do when they get calls about strays.

Geez, what kind of place has absolutely NO animal shelter at all? I mean, I live in a rural area surrounded by other rural areas, and we have animal shelters as well as local rescue groups. The sheriff here would never recommend just letting a stray dog go off again, to possibly freeze, get run over, or attacked by coyotes. Must be a real nice place to live, NOT.

Update on this. We took the pup to a local vet... Probably the only vet around . The vet said she has not heard anyone looking for a dog like this. The pup is definitely 4 months old. A little malnourished but other than that he is fine. They gave him a flea bath. Looking more likely that he will be with us for good.

I do feel that even if the pup had slipped his collar as well as a gate or a door; responsible dog owners would be calling and leaving messages with every authority and veterinary facility within at least 10 miles, possibly more, including the county authority. You're behaving responsibly.
