It's kind of wierd how people get scared from news reports. Every time I am in EP the last thing I worry about is my personal safety, but then again I grew up there and my familiarity with the place keeps me at ease. On the other side of the coin I want to visit New Orleans BUT all the horror stories about the crime kind of keeps me from going.

Next time you might want to add more of a warning that those are REALLY graphic for those that don't want to see it.

El Paso is very safe, and horrors this like are not likely to happen in El Paso anytime soon, or ever at all.

Perhaps you husband was going to work in Juarez? In that case, I would agree, especially if he is white and speaks no Spanish. But if you weren't planning on spending any time there, nor had any reason to go there, I would not rule El Paso out this most unfortunate act of brutality alone. Yes it is ugly, but it did not happen in El Paso.
As an former truck driver, I spent some time in El Paso and Ciudad Juarez in the 70's and 80's. Re EP, I felt as safe there as I've felt in the heart of the US. I had more problems and safety issues in NYC, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Miami. CJ was a "hardscrabble" town back in my time in the 70's and 80's. Granted, there was not the "traficantes de drogas y cárteles de medicina" like there is today whose members kill at the slightest provocation. With the demand of the US for street drugs and the arms moving south into Mexico from the US, short of building a 20 foot high wall (like the Gaza Strip), 50 miles either side of Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, there is nothing that can be done about the killings in Ciudad Juarez and other areas of Mexico. Presidente Felipe Calderon has committed thousands of Federal troops to the major drug trafficking and cartel areas like Ciudad Juarez since being elected in 2006. Unfortunately, this has been an operational failure. What Mexico needs is a growing economy that provides more money to the citizens than trafficking in drugs to the US. The drug violence will eventually spill into El Paso, it has to, it has no where else to go.

That picture isn't from Juarez though, it's from that event in Uruapan, Michoacan when they rolled those heads out onto a dance floor while people were dancing but La Familia killed them because they were meth addicts brining meth into their state.
