No. There is another election in two years and this time the structure is even more in favor of the Democrats than it was for the GOP last night. So we have the situation where these GOP senators from blue states will be looking out for their hides and not Trump's.

Tester's (Democrat) seat is still up in the air.

Kavanaugh might cost him dearly.

I'm not sure why you say this. Democrats losses in the senate races were quite stunning given what happened in Florida, Missouri and Texas. Republicans who have been voting against Trump are now gone.

Has Arizona senate race been called? I see republican McSally is leading, but no call.

Montana senate race hasn't been called either, but republican is leading.

Default House popular vote: 2018 = Dems +9.2%. 2010 = Reps +7.2%

While some votes still need to be counted and several races still need to be decided, this article points out something interesting: While the Republicans brag about their bigger House gain in 2010 compared to the Democrat gain in yesterday's election, the reality is that the popular vote in those races led to a greater democrat vote than the republicans got in 2010.

House ‘popular vote’ gives Democrats something to brag about
Quote:
In the 1994 midterms, Republicans posted huge gains and took control of Congress. Time magazine published a cover image of a powerful, triumphant elephant crushing a donkey, under a headline that called it a “GOP stampede.â€

Republicans had reason to crow at the time: by a 7.1% margin, American voters had backed GOP candidates over Democratic candidates.

Nearly a quarter of a century later, Democrats apparently won the House “popular vote†by 9.2%.

Didn't you learn by now the popular vote doesn't count? Especially meaningless when you're adding up a bunch of house races.

By the way, Florida and Ohio got red governors to control the gerrymandering process

That's true, but it does give an indication to the overall ideological bent of the nation at the time of the election. In yesterday's election, there were more people pissed off at Trump than there were people pissed off at Obama in 2010.

The Democrats were not expected to win Texas. It was expected to be competitive (which it was), but O'Rourke was never expected to win. Missouri was always expected to be a pure toss up.

I should also note that about 11 million more Americans voted for Democrats in the Senate than voted for Republicans.

More than 44 million Americans voted for Democratic Senate candidates vs. about 33 million for Republican contenders, according to figures updated around 7 a.m. Eastern time Wednesday.
