No college student would just think it was a light-hearted funny prank.

There is absolutely no difference. No one group has the "victim" market cornered. Hanging an effigy like was done of both Palin and Obama, is a threat and it is wrong. Skin color doesn't matter.

If it is wrong for Obama it is wrong for Palin. Period. It's called equality.

But it tis the season, it's Halloween, remember? These guys thought it was funny TWO years ago, but was it a white skeleton pirate or a black one? Unfortunately these students of a top medical university had to pay a price. In short, if Palins lynching was no big deal........lighten up Francis.

"A decoration outside the party site was a plastic skeleton dressed in pirate garb hanging from a rope noose."

Regardless of affiliation, this is disgusting that someone would do something so vile. These types of things concern me for his safety.

In the last year there has been alot of noose hanging on college campuses. Nooses and lynchings are reminscent of lynching of black slaves. Our American history is too violent and recent to allow any type of lynchings to go on.

Do anyone remember Jena 6? University of MD had a noose hangins recently. It incites violence and racist meanings. You can deny it all you want but it sends a message to a certain group of people. Its targeted to incite anger. It breeds violence and therefore should not be tolerated anywhere. This isnt halloween fun or college pranks, its just ignorance, disrespectful and hateful.

Completely agree!!!

I read in one article that one of the Obama effigy creators was only objecting to Obama's views on the military. It had nothing at all to do with race.

YES, as I just said, it is terribly wrong in both cases.

But the act of hanging a representation of an AFRICAN AMERICAN, given our national history, is WAY more charged than hanging a white person.

If you truly don't see that, then you should go back to 6th grade history class.

noosing a representation of a black man, whatever the reason, is still racially charged.

Yeah, does anyone remember the "lynching" in the Baltimore City fire dept? Oops, it was done by a black firefighter!

The black mayor (who is now under investigation for theft) did not press charges.
Sterling Clifford, a spokesman for the Police Department and for Mayor Sheila Dixon, said the man admitted to the hoax and will not face criminal charges.
