Yes you made it up. Europe has general health plans everywhere so there is no reason for anybody to have bad teeth. Unlike the US where many people don't have general health care and many people actually do have bad teeth. The so manieth topic about you Muricans projecting your own misery onto us.
I'm sorry that you don't know what the stereotypes about Europeans are. A quick Google search will yield thousands of results if you ask it the same question, it's not something I just made up. It's a stereotype that has been around for awhile. Whether it holds the same validity today or not, I cannot say, but there is some truth to it, same way that there is the going stereotype that most Americans are fat, well 69% of Americans are overweight.
Here, feast your eyes on this.

What I know is that when I watch television programs, movies, documentaries, etc that take place in any European country and the locals appear on there, that you will sometimes find very good looking and healthy looking people, until they smile...there is serious discoloration to their teeth, and a lot of crookedness. I just don't believe that Europeans invest the same amount of care into dental hygiene and straightening as what Americans do.

Why does it matter t you so much about the dental hygiene of Europeans?, Americans are overweight and sluggish (stereotype) but do you see anyone making a thread like that purely based on stereotypes?

If I looked hard enough, I'm sure I could find several. It matters because it's a question of personal curiosity, just because it doesn't matter to you does not mean it doesn't matter to someone else. If you find yourself unable to answer or contribute anything useful to this thread, perhaps you should refrain from further posts.

This thread is meaningless, how can you have n intelligent debate about something like this. Even the way you phrased the question is silly, you're implying that people in Europe have bad teeth when they're probably no different to the US.

Just because a stereotype exists, does not mean it has any truth to it. Your position on this matter is incredibly fragile - your only resources are Google searches.
Anyway, according to the OECD, British, German, Danish, Irish, French, Swedish, Italian and Dutch children have less cavities than American children - less than one on average actually in some cases.
In Socialist France, implants are not refunded by the Soviet style health system (only if yoy are an undocumented alien, sad but true). As a result, a lot of people go overseas to have a treatment , which can be up to 70% cheaper (and as good or better quality) than in France. That's what my wife is going to do at the end of the month, she is flying to Hungary (Budapest) becaise she badly needs new teeth.
On the other in France in our crazy country if someone wants to change sex, it's fully paid by social security!
Why domost people in European countries have bad teeth?
You are aware that most equates to over 50% aren't you? Also, as has been pointed out, discoloration and crookedness does not equal bad, unhealthy would be bad.
I would say, on the whole, that many Europeans are more interested in the health of their teeth rather than having them straight enough to navigate by and bright enough to illuminate a darkened room.

Reason: .. spelling correction of thread title.
Good teeth in America is way more recent than people think. Watch some old movies. The vanity for perfectly straight teeth emerges sometime in the late 70s. Bleached White teeth didn't become widely popular until the last decade or so.
Also, crooked teeth does not neceessarily connote unhealthy teeth or poor oral hygeine.

Straightening teeth, unless they're extremely crooked has nothing to do with healthy teeth. Nor does discoloration. Both are cosmetic. From what I've heard and from Elinina's post, the reason posters don't believe "Europeans have bad teeth" is that they're equating bad teeth with unhealthy teeth not cosmetic issues. The American habit of braces for kids is probably viewed as unnecessary and excessive. In other countries, not perfectly straight teeth wouldn't be considered "bad".
