Clip-on earrings are seriously uncomfortable - I've tried a few of those too (mostly my grandma's when I was a kid) and had the same feeling. Pierced earrings are way more comfortable, I don't even really consciously feel them if they are small enough (small hoops/studs, etc).

I got mine pierced in my 40's...never liked clip ons, they hurt. I have small gold hoops that I leave in most
of the time, can sleep in them too. My holes tend to start closing up otherwise.

I think its coming full circle, so that soon unpierced ears and untattooed bodies will be "in".

My ears have been pierced for 59 years and I usually wear the 14k gold ball studs that were my first pair of earrings. No problems once they healed way back then.

An attacker yanking earrings out? Seriously? What kind of attacker do you fear? The Earring Attacker? Never heard of that one!

Getting caught on something? Occasionally, it happens with a sweater or my hair. Seems to happen more with dangly earrings. I've never had any damage to my ears from it. Happens maybe once every month or two. Less in the summer since I don't wear sweaters and have my hair up more.

Got my first holes pierced when I was 5.....John Lennon got shot and my earrings got shot all in the same day. Still remember walking through the mall and talking about how we both go shot. My parents didn't know yet that he died.

Got my second and third holes for my 16th birthday. I've had my cartilage pierced numerous times. I never kept those holes though....they always seemed prone to infections....then again I was a teenager who didn't have a great deal of patience.

Getting your ears pierced as a woman is like getting curcumcised as a man. You can not do it, but why? No (legitimate) reasons not to. Especially with ear piercings, I had one done when I was younger as a guy and it only took a year or so to close up completely. No awful physical scars, or emotional ones.

I don't. I just don't have any interest in it, never did. Nothing about it grosses me out, it just doesn't appeal to me.

My parents had my ears pierced when I was about 4. I don't have any childhood psychological trauma from this. I got second and third holes in each ear, and then a fourth in one, then 2 more in the cartilage, as a teen. Everything but the first holes are long since closed up. I don't wear earrings regularly but when I go out I do, no problems. During my 20's I went through a rebellious stage where I had several body piercings but they're all gone and closed now. I do have 14 tattoos. I used to want an eyebrow piercing but my mother told me she would kill me. But somehow she's fine with tattoos....weirdo lady lol.

Mine 'were' pierced back in the mid 80s; however, the person that pierced them did a bad job on one ear and it was so difficult to try and get the earring in that I finally said 'to heck with it' and let both piercing close up over the years.

I tried clamp on earrings but they were uncomfortable.

I think earrings are very attractive and do wish that at some point I had tried to get them pierced correctly.

Oh, sure, I know women without pierced ears.

I was a little scared, but had mine pierced when I was in my teens, because I knew I'd want to wear expensive earrings when I grew up. And I wear small ones, so hardly any chance of something bad happening.
