I will be heading to NC next week and always try to have some BBQ where ever I go.
Vinegar based is not my favorite but I still think is very good.

I think as I drive up I will try some BBQ in N Florida, then GA, then SC and then NC. The when I leave NC I will get some in TN and then some in KY.

Should be a good trip.

You can claim how cold it is all you like but that statistics of the average lows tell the story of there being a few cold months. It's all about perspective though.
Charlotte's unemployment is horrible, and getting worse daily due to:

1. Bank of America
2. Wachovia (which is now gone)
3. It is a transportation hub and that is and will continue to take a huge hit.

Thousands of people are laid off, with many more to come, as Wells Fargo continues to pare down.

Hundreds of school system positions laid off in the last 2-3 months as well.

Yep,, I feel the same way, don't like the vinegar based NC sauce, but their pork is great.

Most people in the US that don't live in NC but have tried the sauce refer to it as "yeller sauce" ha ha. I like the more tomato based type sauce that one finds in Tennessee in particular. If I'm not mistaken TN actually wins the top spot for sauce every year. NC ends up 3rd or 4th.

I take back Charlotte after looking up the stats. Unemployment in the triangle however is much better than the rest of the state.

Charlotte's high unemployment rate is due to the many high paying white collar jobs that are in turmoil due to the economy.

Same in FL, only worse. FL spends less money on education (all the retirees from up north want services for themselves - gimme gimme gimme - but dont want to give a dime to the education systems). We cant even keep good teachers and many of the teachers who due stay in FL have low morale. Not all of course, there are a lot of good teachers, but many FL teachers have low morale it seems. My teachers in NC were excellent by the way. Even at the Comm. College I attended for a bit, all the teachers were very professional, and I dont know any of them that didn't have a Ph.D.

Default Nc

I grew up in FL. Lived in Orlando, Boca & Ft. Lauderdale, and went to college in St. Augustine. I moved to Raleigh, NC 13 yrs ago and LOVE IT!!! I still have family & friends in central FL, we visit every now and then, but have never given a second thought to moving back--no way.
I don't know why anyone would say the people here are not nice, I haven't encountered that at all. I've visited many parts of the state and can't say that I dislike any of them. Raleigh is great as far as weather goes, schools are very good and the people are a mix of many areas of the country. We have been voted top place to move on many recent polls. I like being able to go to the mountains in 3 hours and the beach in 2 hours while enjoying the seasons changing. Winters are mild with little if any snow. Summers are much nicer then FL too. Taxes are lower then FL although we do have a State tax. Our market is not as bad as the FL market because we never had a ramp up in prices. Please let me know if you have any questions, I will be happy to tell you more. I have many FL neighbors here, some Gators and some Seminoles!

^^^Raleigh is awesome. I used to live in WNC. I dont know anyone, nor have I met anyone that says that the people in Raleigh are not nice. I could say that for Orlando - I think people here are not friendly at all - unless you find the occasional native or friendly transplant - but there doesnt seem to be that many happy people here in Orlando - native or transplant. It's kind of an odd place to be honest. As a FL native, I dont like what has happened to Orlando and much of FL.

The public school system all around the Raleigh area is far superior than anything in FL for public schools.
