Teachers and other essential workers do not. The vaccine is scarce enough without adding out of state snowbirds to the queue.

I guess DeSantis is more interested in keeping the snowbirds in restaurants and out spending money.
A residency requirement? The vaccination program is a national program. I don’t know any state that has such, and anyone who advocates a 75 year old part time snowbird fall in line behind a 25 year old grocery store employee solely due to a different drivers license is not in any place to judge anyone’s morals. Sick.

The facts are the facts....science is science...results are results. All good for DeSantis, & Florida residents.

FLA residents are happy he wasn't a militant dictator like; Cuomo, Whitmer, Newsome, ect. ...all who have been caught breaking their own laws/rules/policies on video tape...how humiliating to be outed as a hypocrite in front of the entire country. They are trying to recall Newsome & throw him out of office. The courts have overturned some of Whitmer's & Cuomo's dictates. DeSantis is crushing those Governors.

Florida's election results reflect the job DeSantis is doing. Trump won Florida, Pubs gained big time in the State House, & gained seats in the U.S. House. DeSantis is pushing our Red state Redder.

I'm ecstatic that Gillum is in rehab, and not in Talahassee...what a loser that guy turned out to be. His poor wife and kids.
Just like Trump while Melania was nursing Baron.

Exactly. How despicable can someone be to demand their “50 something schoolteacher husband” be a priority over an elderly senior citizen. Yikes.

Those old people don't have someone telling them 'if you don't want to go back to a full classroom with no social distancing then you can always just quit your job'. So yeah, I do have less sympathy about that cohort than people still in the labor force.

And DeSantis' plan actually increases risk for more frail elderly people. I've worked in aging and the CNAs and persona care aides we scheduled would have as many as 8 different homes in a week. Those employees do the same work as nursing home workers and need to be grouped along with them.

Except that DeSantis is going against medical advice and is the one who is making it all political.

As in many other posts. We don't care that your parents are here to hang out in FL on vacation. They can stay inside and isolate till all other Floridians that are forced to work (to pay rent!) with the public can get the vaccination. I'm sure that your parents are held up in some community with groceries that can be delivered and a very nice view in their backyard. No one forced them to go on vacation during a pandemic and no one is forcing them to go to work. Unlike the people who ARE being forced to go to work and still can get very sick from this AND YES, young people die from it as well. So who is the YIKES here? The one who has some selfish parents who went on vacation or the lowly school teacher who has to work to keep a roof over his families head ? Don't forget the Gov. IS FORCING in person schooling. If we were all remote the point would be moot.

Colorado has prioritized persons age 70 and over as well as front-line workers in education and other essential professions over persons less than age 70. This seems very sensible.

<<Phase 1B will now also prioritize Coloradans age 70 and older as well as front-line workers in education, food and agriculture, manufacturing, the U.S. Postal Service, public transportation, specialized transportation, grocery stores, public health and journalism. Those providing direct care to people experiencing homelessness will also be prioritized in this phase.

Essential workers in executive, legislative and judicial branches of state government have also been moved up to Phase 1B. >>

Colorado does not offer first-come, first-serve vaccination lines. Vaccinations are conducted at workplaces or by randomized appointments for qualified individuals.

https://denver.cbslocal.com/2020/12/...irus-uchealth/

Phase 1B vaccinations only are permitted after all Phase 1A members, such as health care workers with exposure to COVID-19 patients and employees and residents at long-term care facilities, are vaccinated.

Colorado's plan seems more sensible than that in Florida, where it seems unlikely that all members of Phase 1A have been vaccinated given the number of vaccines administered and the presence of 500,000 registered healthcare workers in Florida and 400,000 residents long-term care facilities. See the end of post 338 in this thread.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/flor...ns-die-34.html

Florida also is treating persons over age 70 and persons between age 65 and age 70 equally, despite Florida's large population of persons over age 70. FLORIDA HAS 2.3 MILLION RESIDENTS OVER AGE 70, MANY TIMES GREATER THAN THE NUMBER OF VACCINATIONS ADMINISTERED TO DATE.

https://acl.gov/sites/default/files/...le%20Final.pdf

Despite repeated unsubstantiated claims in this thread, it's highly unlikely that ANY reputable epidemiologist recommended giving priority at this time to persons less than age 70.

So what happens when a Florida teacher shows up in Colorado to get their vaccination? Think local COLORADO folks would have a fit?

I see you followed me here to continue your ranting.

No state has limited vaccinations by residency. It’s not just DeSantis. Your anger is misguided.

I love hearing the commonly used word “SeLfiSh” today - especially from the poster demanding a 25 year old resident be vaccinated over a 75 year old senior citizen. El. Oh. El. Can’t make it up.

So now it's 25?

By the way you are the one who came to the Florida section to continue the argument.

In all of my posts I have said 64 and YOUNGER, not 25, not 30.

Anyone here, on vacation, 65 and older, is stealing a vaccine from a Florida resident that is 64 or younger. Furthermore if they live here 51% of the year, I'm fine with it. Anyone below 51% should be forced to get the vaccine in their own HOME town.

75 and Older is NOT the debate here. 65+ going on vacation during a GLOBAL PANDEMIC and then expecting that state to pander to them while at the same time stealing a vaccine from the local 65 or younger crowd is about the most selfish thing that can be done. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT STATES ARE SHIPPED VACCINES BASED ON THEIR FULL TIME RESIDENT NUMBERS.

But when the 25 year EMT has to take off from work for week because he has a fever...multiply that by whatever amount with nurses, docs, cops, etc. That’s the other argument.

And about Florida’s election results, that was also the result of misleading ads targeted at Spanish language speakers claiming Biden was a socialist in the likes of the leaders of the countries from which they fled. Gains made with that misleading message in SFL made up for loses in counties like Seminole, Duval, and Pinellas (?). But the Biden campaign failed by treating minority groups like monoliths. Meanwhile, “socialist” Biden had more anti-Trump Republicans on the virtual stage at the DNC than super liberals and is stuffing his cabinet with safe moderates, including repeats from the Obama administration that liberals didn’t like.

Additionally, COVID death reporting in the state was apparently suppressed leading up to the election, making Florida appear better than it was.
