Right now, it's all talk. Spouse is at a sweet spot with his job and it would be difficult for him to make as much elsewhere, and in this economy I'm feelng very risk-averse.

But when I walk through a place like Winter Park, it can feel like a place to call home for me, and I haven't felt the same way about the cities I've been to in South Florida.

True, Winter Park is nice. It, and Oviedo/Winter Springs are the nicest areas in Orlando area. Orlando itself is not much like WP, so if you wanted to live IN Orlando, you have to choose wisely, as I said above in previous post, it is a lot like Miami now.

I think it's a great idea given what you say about yourself and would be a valuable experience for your kids. But, with a family especially, I wouldn't do it without having a job in the new location first. Broaden your search area if you have to and make your search a job search. You can always come back to Tallahassee later if you like--or move somewhere else.

I don't think that moving to a place should be looked at like making a commitment when you marry someone.

On the other hand, I'm not exactly known for that kind of a commitment in marriage, either, but that's another story.

I'm a FL native, born in Clearwater, and I've lived in FL, couple years in TN, and now live near Kalamazoo MI. It can be tough up here getting a job and dealing with winter, but other than that it's awesome here from late March to November. Definetly cheaper to live up here and the inland lakes are great in summer. For me it's FL and MI, any other state doesn't interest me.
