MAN! Do I feel like I'm gonna lose? Yeesh.... this month, just maybe.

Husband picked up a screw and a nail in the side of his tire, new tire -- 142 bucks. Truck's side window was busted out, had to be replaced (along with the windshield, which has needed to be done for a few months) -- 149 bucks. New filling to replace old cracked filling and a small cavity, dental exam -- 250 bucks. Was told I would very probably need a root canal on this tooth after he was done..... I did -- 1399 bucks. The crown comes in a couple of months -- 800 more. Very precious cat Knuckles needed a dental, all teeth were in really bad shape, all pulled with a few infections -- 451 bucks. Truck ignition and starter and very possibly the alternator went out -- 700 bucks.

And we haven't got to the fact I need new tires and a tune up for my car.... or the fect the new satellite reciever shorted out and caught fire....

One tire for $142? Do you do the required maintenence on the tires?
I thought the insurance company can cover the cracked windshied?
How are you paying $1,399 for Root Canal? No insurance?

Why are your teeth in bad shape? Do you maintain it by brushing, flossing, mouth wash? regular cleaning and check ups?

Rotating the tires is unlikely to prevent a nail puncture. She may not have comprehensive car insurance, and dental insurance coverage can vary dramatically, so, yes, it could absolutely cost $1400 for a root canal. Good for you if you've never needed major dental work, but some of us have problems despite routine cleanings and diligent brushing and flossing, particularly as we age. Give Tallysmom a break.

At Discount Tires, if my tires get a puncture then they will fix that in less then 5 minutes for free. Tires also come with certain and mileage warranty with free lifetime tire balancing and rotation and thats with Discount Tires.

Comprehensive is important if you see value in your car.

What kind of Dental insurance is this? Even out of pocket root canal do not cost that much.

I did have some major dental work done with other health issues. The whole is to create a emergency fund and a solid rainy fund so no matter what happens, you are always safe.

One tire for our truck is 142 bucks. They can't fix two side punctures... what maintenance on tires is there other than inflation and rotation?

Insurance covers windshields after the deductible, and ours didn't cost 1000 bucks. Insurance will cover to fix chips and very small cracks for free -- but this was the whole blasted windshield.

Dental insurance when you are self employed isn't worth it. To put it simply, dental insurance would cost us way more per year than we pay out of pocket.

My teeth are in fine shape -- although I am missing 8. I lost four teeth to braces and a small mouth, and when the wisdom teeth started coming through, they had to go, too, since there was no room in my teeny mouth for them. I brush and floss, the whole nine yards -- but a thirty year old filling cracked unknown to me, another cavity formed at the crack near the root pulp and going in my dentist said that this could very possibly cause me to have a root canal.

And it did.

And as for how I will pay for all this? Next month I won't save as much.

Yeah, root canals are outrageously expensive, even with insurance. If my dad hadn't had a good job when he was alive, my sister would have no teeth. For some reason, she was always getting root canals, even though she took care of her teeth.

How does brushing and flossing ones' teeth prevent a cracked filling?

I had a cracked filling years ago, the entire procedure, including root canal, and replacement crown, came to about $5000, that was ~ 10 years ago. Insurance paid about half. Actually, come to think of it, insurance paid less than half because I went out-of-network, but the root canal specialists in network I wouldn't let work on a dog!

Or, a few years ago, a hail storm destroyed our roof. New roof cost us about $3000, after insurance. what were we supposed to do, prevent a hail storm?

Certainly practice preventative maintenance when possible, and carry appropriate insurance, but that doesn't prevent stuff from happening, nor does it completely cover you financially. Stuff happens!

Oh, and that emergency fund? Well, it can only cover so many emergencies before it goes negative.

You can get that cheaper at Costco. Where did you get this? Was a name brand? Are you rotating every 6K-8K miles? 4 wheel allignment?

Is it a Hummer?

There are discount dental plans on line which are good.

How about a part-time job with insurance?
