These areas may be your cup of tea:

City of Seneca > Home

Most likely you will not find jobs paying on a par with CT. The weather, much lower taxes, much lower cost of living, and a better pace of life will make up for it and you will adjust.

Western Oregon is ideal. If you live in the Willamette valley you have plenty of lakes, ponds, large rivers, small creeks, mountains not too far away, large metropolitan areas and small county towns. The weather is very benign, not too cold in the winter, usually a range of 30 to 50 F, and warm, but not blazingly hot in the summer, usually in the 80's. It does rain here though, averaging 35" a year, mostly in the spring and winter. The fall of the year can be a beautiful time, warm, but you can feel the change. We also don't have Hurricanes or Tornadoes.

We've been here for 40 plus years. I don't ever want to move.

Ditto. Do they have to be actual mountains, or will nice rugged somewhat steep terrain work as well? I'm thinking the Cumberland plateau in KY and TN, maybe WVA, western NC, east TN, the northern areas of GA and AL.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick,_Maryland

We’ve been here 24 years. To be honest, I don’t like Maryland as a state (I like guns/shooting) but Frederick is nice and the geographical area is nice and Frederick has one of the best indoor shooing ranges around. There’s a very large community, Lake Linganore that has the 2nd or 3rd largest lake in Maryland. It’s a private lake, the community actually owns the land under and around. More info...

Sierra Nevadas.

Still cold depending onhow high up you are, but you can just go down a few miles and be warmer if you wish.

Northeast Tennessee.
Plenty of Lakes.
More Mountains that you can possibly find your way out of.
Plenty of Law Enforcement jobs. Salaries are low. So is cost of living.
Great summers. Mild winters.
No State Income Tax.
Awesome people.

New to the forum but I will explain my issue the best I can. I am 28 and have lived in CT my entire life and like most people I absolutely hate it here. What I NEED in my future home are mountains and lakes. I love to hike but I love spending my summers on the water. I would like somewhat warmer winters if possible, I hate the New England -15 to 20 degree winters. I had highly considered Colorado but it seems like the lake portion is out of the question, they have them I guess they are just super cold. I work in law enforcement and do not plan on moving until I have a job.

WHAT I NEED - Mountains, lakes
WHAT I'D LIKE - Warmer winters

Thanks,
Matthew
Washington state is ideal.

Pacific North West. Plenty of lakes. Plenty of mountains. Literally non existent winter, but you can go mountains for snow sports.

Lots of rain too.

I almost moved to Tennessee but have bad allergies so I didn't. That tells you something about the foliage. Go to the Tennessee forum and check it out.

Actually, for any area you are interested in,, check out that states forum. You'll get insight from the people who actually live there.

Good luck on your search.
