Won't your entire east coast just merge into one huge urban sprawl called Megacity 1 soon anyway?
I read that in a comic book once, so it must be true.
The cities of Hampton Roads are all small/medium/large cities that grew together over the years with no allegiances to the "big picture" of ONE large city surrounded by suburbs. The redundancy of maintaining separate services for each community is ridiculous when one city seamlessly blends into the other. The population is now above 1.7 million for the entire metro and as the population climbs to 2 million the need for consolidation becomes even more pronounced. A borough system such as NYC would IMO be the best bet.
The parochial "proud" separate city scenario is becoming increasingly diluted as the area grows and becomes even more diversified.
hmm... urban, coastal, Hampton Roads/Southeast VA/Coastal Virginia needs to consolidate to be more efficient and to control what we become as the metro grows....what does that have to do with combining states, please splane.....
I have always wanted to see Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Palatine, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Streamwood, and Hanover Park merge into one city of over 459,000 people in the northwest burbs of Chicago. I cannot really say why. It is just something I would like to see.
Albuquerque and South Valley, NM
El Paso, TX and Ciudad Juarez, CH (my fantasy US annexation of Chihuahua, which is unlikely to ever happen)
The Metroplex (what are the consequences of what I just typed?)
Gallup and Gamerco, NM (for Gamerco's sake)

El Paso would go from one of the safest cities in the country to one of the most dangerous instantly....
