who among us can REALLY guarantee they are ALL white(meaning caucasian)????
Excellent point, mixing of the genes is a good thing.
The same can be said for the mixing of cultures in a city.
I feel l am a better man for having lived in Chicago.
Race is just not an issue... hence we are not uptight to joke

What this dude means is where are the cities which don't have the funny eyed people, the brown people who have mariachi music, and the people constantly playing rap and hip hop in their cars... someone of European or Mediterranean decent.

It isn't just Portland... according to quickfacts.census.gov, the ENTIRE state is 96.9% white. I live here and the few non caucasian people I see are military personnel, a few Somalis, and a handful of Asian decent. There is a family from Ukraine living a few houses down, but they are definitely white. Not much diversity of any kind and one of the many reasons we are looking to move.
Is that not hypocritical of Portlanders? I suppose it is not if they are born and bred in Portland. Weren't blacks prevented to settle in Oregon for a long time?
It may not apply to Portland, but it's interesting to observe how as you go up the educational and social ladder the happy diversity talk is not enforced.
Orange County is nice. It does not feel like a city though.
I think Portland is welcoming of all races, it is just historically white. A lot of people with extremely fair skin also seem to prefer the cloudy climate.
Fair enough. I can understand that. My mother is one of those stawberry blonde haired people with skin type 1, who cannot enjoy the sun much as her skin get easily freckled and burnt in a short period of time.

What constitutes a "white" person? There are many off-sets: Anglo-Saxon, Slavic, Viking, Nordic, Dinaric, Mediterranean, Alpine, East Baltic, Turks, Bedouis, Old Class Armenians ? You would have to be more specific as to what "White" race is in your criteria . Be more specific.
Regions of North Dakota have many "nordics"
To me, a white person is anyone who has white features without any knowledge of ancestry rooted in a race of "color".
For example, somebody like Mariah Carey looks white, but she's part black so she doesn't count. One drop rule.
Well, then it's not a black city. No one can argue that.
