Correlation does not equal causation, but its at least worth mentioning that violent crime in Finland is several orders of magnitude higher than violent crime in the US. And Finland is not even the most violent nation in Europe. Maybe because we - and our police - are more likely to kill each other, especially with guns, people are less likely to initiate violent crime...

And where did you learn this "fact"?
According to Wikipedia the US homicide rate is almost 3 times higher than the Finnish one.

I'm not sure they are all that diverse outside of major cities. The US can be diverse in rural areas as well, sometimes violently so.
