This is the reverse of the "Cities you were not impressed with, then fell in love with" thread. Interested in hearing which ones gave a great first impression, then on a second visit or move to there, you found out it was not what you envisioned.
Could be that on your first visit there, happened to be a lot of events, activity, great weather, lucky circumstances, etc. and then a later visit or move there, you saw the city from a more normal prespective, or you saw more of the city and it did not meet your initial expectations and was not as lively, or large or urban as the first impression it gave.
Tampa. It's a cool city, but is considerably grimier than it might initially appear. Coupled with lackluster schools, and little culture of its own I grew to not love it. It's not a bad place, but just not not for me.
Tampa/St. Petersburg. I had lived in Sarasota for a little bit (loved it) and wanted something a bit more urban/happening so I looked into Tampa/STP. Yeah it has a nice skyline in the downtown section but man it just feels really trashy and ghetto in a lot of areas.
Key West - came into the "Old Town" at night and thought it was pretty cool initially. But, cruise ships dump like hundreds of idiots on to the streets everyday. After a couple days it's just kinda "meh," and you get tired dealing with the crowds.

First time I saw it (as a single person), I thought it was a nice college town with a walkable downtown (which I love). The second time I saw it (as a mom with 3 children) was for a potential move, and I realized that the walkable downtown was full of college kids, which is not my ideal for a young family. And it's pretty rural in its surroundings. People rave about this town. I've lived here for over 6 years now, and I just don't get it.
San Francisco. Went there last fall and opinion dropped way down. Not even on my radar as a destination anymore.
