You'd think. But newspapers love to announce stuff like that, and chambers of commerce love to put it on brochures. It seems to be a fairly broad bragging point.
Those population estimates referenced in the OP are all wrong. All they did was take the last census reported year-over-year population gain and then defaulted that number for every state and kept rolling with that same number for all immediate incoming years. Numbers change, year per year, so their assumption is faulty.
The census estimates come out next month in the final week of December. The numbers presented in this thread are non-factual and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Michigan's population has been at a standstill for the last decade. North and South Carolina have good steady growth. Thanks for posting OP.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a state’s population holding steady. There’s only a problem if it’s declining for some reason.
The Carolina’s are growing too fast IMO, it’s sad to see how much forested area has been lost in N Carolina to make way for housing and strip malls. Same thing with Florida, the natural areas are being destroyed because there’s just too many damn people.

Agree with this whole heartedly, sometimes less is better, and sometimes cities can make significant improvements without adding all the urban sprawl.

I actually remember all the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh papers having headlines about PA surpassing Illinois, same with Chicago papers.
Why are some of you celebrating huge growth and large pop numbers? I personally see no good in large, unsustainable population growth. I live in MN, a nice steady growth is good, but I wouldn't be proud with 15 million people in my state. Just my opinion
