I think there may have been some health issues with the owner(s) and.. if they own the building.. Probably another Como's Pete's style situation.. More profitable to sell than to stay in business. I don't know that as fact, just assuming.

Hopefully they don't close any stores. I read that and it sounds like one of those prepackaged deals where they rearrange financing. Belk department store did that a few years back and was in and out of bankruptcy in 24 hours.
Another big round of closures has been announced by Macy's. But I would suspect the Haywood store may remain safe again as it has historically been a good performer and the only location in the Upstate. Columbia, not so sure, as they are in the dead mall, although they own their building there.
Apparently they are planning to expand their more upscale Bloomingdale's division, and develop smaller prototype Macy's stores. Possibly in Charlotte the Macy's at SouthPark could convert to Bloomingdale's, as they have previously sought a store there but had no space available. Leaving the other Macy's in Charlotte at Northlake.
But the conversion of regional brands such as Rich's and Hecht's to Macy's has not necessarily proven successful as customers may have preferred the legacy nameplates.
Good news! The Greenville Macy's is not one of the stores set to close a Macy's rep confirmed to Fox Carolina. Macy's also operates the Bluemercury store downtown. I think Macy's just has too many locations in some cities with some being probably in declining malls.
Walgreen's has closed two Greenville area stores at least two weeks ago.
#9597, 1801 Poinsett Highway, Greenville
#17255, 2616 Anderson Road, Greenville
I didn't even know an Anderson Rd Walgreens existed. Looks tiny from the pictures. Was it just the prescription counter and not a full line store?
No surprise regarding Poinsett Highway. Location wasn't convenient at all if you live towards Furman. Horrible to get in and out of at that intersection. Easier to just drive to the TR Walgreens for neighborhoods out that way.
I like Walgreens much better than CVS. I'm Always getting credits with their rewards program. Hate to see them close any locations.

Yes, it was only a pharmacy and located in an old dry cleaners building (yes, tiny). I thought it looked sketchy considering the surrounding neighborhood. That part of Greenville (the Welcome area near Carolina High School) needs significant help. The Powdersville store is not too far out on the same road and is a great place by comparison.

Good to hear but not surprising as Haywood is the only Macy's in the Upstate and one of only two in SC. As a former Rich's, it has historically been a good performer.
But what about the Columbia store or Charlotte locations? I could speculate they may convert SouthPark to a more upscale Bloomingdale's and leave the Northlake Macy's. And although the Columbia Macy's is in the bad mall, they do own their nice large building, although it is overdue for renovation.
