Er, men have access to the internet, Tinder, etc., and can look at whatever they want. They don't need to go through the effort of ten years of university, including specialized medical training, to do that. :roll eyes:

Women have the option of having a female clinic staff member in the room with them during a pelvic, which is routine, so they aren't alone with a male doctor when the examination happens.

And when I go to the OBGYN, the waiting room's always crowded and I don't see a lot of "attractive" women. They're all shapes and sizes and medical conditions, usually heavily pregnant... some past menopause, some who are busy booking surgeries, and many appointments don't even involve a physical exam, if you're there to discuss ordering tests or having a post-surgery consult with the doctor.

Do you also worry about male orthopedists, male cardio-thoracic surgeons, male physio therapists, male x-ray technicians, etc., being around female patients? Or just OBGYNs?

Ask the majority of men whether they would prefer to have dressed or naked female clients. Also ask them if they would prefer to have naked male clients or naked female clients at work. Finally, ask them if they would like a job where they make a lot of money, are held in high regard, have power and get to see women naked all day. How do you think they would answer the following questions?

I'm not saying most male obgyns go to med school to look at vaginas, but if a man is already going to med school and he has the choice to work with naked men, naked women or naked kids, which do you think they would choose?

Why do you think that is routine in the first place? If doctors sex didn't matter why would that mainly apply to male doctors and why would the nurses be female?

I didn't realize that attractive healthy women never went to the obgyn. The percent of attractive women at a obgyn office is probably very close to the percent of attractive women in a particular community.

Less so, but if nudity and sexual organs are involved, it makes sense to have same-sex doctors. Do you think we should have unisex changing rooms and bathrooms?

Wow..lots of hostilities on this subject.
I've had both handle my parts. I prefer a female opening me up down there aND checking for lumps.
But that's just me. Luckily I have had great checkups and have never had to have surgeries or treatments for any illnesses. Crossing my fingers it stays that way.
I don't think there is a need to get nasty towards some of the responses here...we are just answering the op question. I don't think it's strange.

This is completely unrealistic, not to mention unnecessary, as others have stated. The fact is, only one third of all practicing physicians today are female, so it's just not possible to have only female doctors examining and treating female patients. The numbers just don't work out.

Moreover, nudity comes into play all the time, regardless of whether or not that part of the body is under examination. The first thing you do to a trauma patient is remove their clothing to check for injuries. Almost every single surgical patient is naked in the OR, regardless of procedure.

At the VA Hospital there are Residents doing their four years under the supervision of a Senior Doctor.

Each day morning or afternoon there are specific issues they work with and one is Urology. About a dozen or more men waiting in the waiting room for their call.......I have been there.

Both Male and Female MD's working and I had a young pretty lady see me......yea I know.....tell me what your thinking.

Is it strange to see a male doc for intimate female issues?

No. But you might not get the answers you expect.

I saw a fifty-ish Kaiser gynecologist for a routine exam. I took the opportunity to ask him if it was normal for intercourse to be extremely painful at my age.

He got angry. Went from zero to furious in one second. He said shortly, "NO! It is NOT NORMAL at ALL!"

I did some research later and discovered that yes, it's actually quite common in post-menopausal women. So why did he say no? And why the anger?

All I can figure is his wife was about my age and that's why she won't have sex with him.

For the men reading this, it is not a simple problem that can be solved using more lubrication. There are various hormone products that can help. But you should not take it personally.

What percent of people ever enter a trauma ward as a patient? Certainly there are enough female doctors for a female trauma room and a male trauma room.

Surgical patients are naked until they are draped. Women could prep women and men could prep men. Not that hard.

I never said that only female doctors should treat women for anything, just sensitive issues where nudity is involved.

The fact of the matter is that you are using special cases to try to justify male doctors examining female patients in the vast majority of non-trauma or OR scenarios.

"Special cases"? Lol. It's amazing how many there are, right?

When I was a kid I developed scoliosis (spinal curvature) that required three years wearing a body brace that had to be fitted regularly as I grew (no female bracing technicians available) and regular visits to an orthopaedic surgeon (no female ones available). He performed the spinal fusion surgery on me that saved my life... but that point, there was pressure on my heart and lungs from the progressive deformity of my spine and ribcage. Should I have just gone without medical treatment? Male doctors save lives, you know, they aren't just hobbyists.

Your mileage may vary if you're in a city with tons of female medical specialists, such that no female patient ever needs to be seen naked by a male doctor. But really, it's strange discrimination against male medical specialists.

Should heterosexual female nurses be banned from working with nude male patients?

I honestly don't believe that adult men all think that way. Sorry. I just don't believe that. You might rationalize the normality of a one-track mind by claiming that 100% of men think exactly the same way. But clearly. most of them find other things to think about too.

Lol. Wow. What if they're gay, or just not pervs?

Routine probably to protect the doctors from false claims of improper behaviour. The only times I've heard of doctors being investigated for improper behaviour, none of them were even OBGYNs.

If you imagine that OBGYN waiting rooms are packed with hotties around 21 years old, you'd be completely wrong. Young women don't go to OBGYNs much, except maybe to get a prescription for the pill, and they don't need a pelvic exam for that. Pregnant women tend to be older now, and women with STDs and menopause/post-menopause health issues can be in any physical condition.

Although, the funny thing is, I did once meet a retired model at the OBGYN. She was around 50 but very tall and thin. Someone asked her if she used to model, she laughed and said she did. She said she was 6' tall without her heels. She didn't seem to care that the OBGYN was male.

There actually are unisex (family) bathrooms. I've been to public pools where kids changed and showered in the ladies' change area. If you go to some countries, men and women take saunas together nude. The entire world isn't under gender apartheid.

It doesn't bother most women whether or not their OBGYN is male or female. Why does it bother you so much? Isn't it a women's issue, and up to women to decide if they're comfortable with it or not? Why do they need you to condemn it?

People have to do what they're comfortable with, but doctors' brains seem to see be trained to see the world differently with these kinds of issues.

They see whatever issue they're looking at as a science problem to solve, regardless of what part of the body it involves, with the good ones also see the need for some decent people skills.
