Too bad our own Decatur Daily hasn't given a hint about it, as of today (Sunday, March 16, 2008).

Sweetwater site will offer retail, housing and entertainment
DECATUR - After several nibbles over the years, Decatur finally landed the big one Monday with the announcement of the proposed development of a multimillion-dollar project in the southwest corner of Interstate 65 and Alabama 20.

I need some more excitement from this forum about this. This will be of great benefit to Huntsville and the rest of North Alabama as well not just Decatur.

I'm cautious.
As a Decatur resident, I want to make sure this will not cost us big tax bucks while it's running local stores out of business. At the same time, I'm excited because while Huntsville and Madison, Athens and even little Priceville and Hartselle have had explosive growth, things are stagnating in Decatur. There are no new subdivisions going in. Our brand-new Target is probably the smallest I've ever visited. There is no other upcoming retail development. For a city of 54,000, we have very poor restaurant options, but probably more Mexican restaurants per capita than any other city in the US. Our city and school leaders seem to be doing nothing about our rapidly declining school ratings. They have developed a state-of-the-art soccer park, with NCAA tournaments being played there, yet no new playgrounds or parks are being planned.
We've seen big plans like this before, and nothing has come of it.
So...we will see if these folks actually deliver.

My husband will be THRILLED...lol He loves the one here in VA...the kids love their aquarium...LOL One of the main reasons he chose the Huntsville area was the fishing available in the area. I'm sure he's not the only one. I think that Bass Pro will do well there.

I'm thrilled about this development because it will spill off development along the I-65 and I-565 corridors! I hope it gets built along with the 2700 homes, medical village, offices, and the retail portions!
