Our local weather guy is on top of this. He said it may turn west and what do you know.....
Thanks. While you're well away from the center, you'll feel the effects with rain and some wind and of course the clouds. Let me know what your local meteos are saying. Thanks!
Euro is west as well. Almost hits Carolinas.
So looks like we have some agreement this afternoon with all models not only trending west but hitting around the Carolinas
What are sea surface temps like off the southeast Atlantic coast north of the Bahamas? While a category 1 or 2 hurricane will definitely be problematic if it were to strike the southeastern coast... a category 4 would be much, much, much more significant.
Jamaica, Cuba, Colombia, Bahamas, and Dominican Republic don't need this either, Haiti isn't special
Haiti is significantly poorer than all of them, and doesn't have the means to cope with something like this. The other countries don't need it either, but they're much better prepared to withstand it.

Exactly. Haiti is also significantly deforested so it won't take much for mudslides to start happening, and with the amount of rain they're expected to receive (upwards of 40 inches) this has the potential to be catastrophic.
Models have shifted way westward, still days away so things will continue to change, but multiple models show NYC/Long Island in the crosshairs for a landfall.

Have to assume some terrain changes too with sink holes, road collapses, and mudslides..
I think the 20-40" would be localized spots though. Still..10-20" is more than enough to cause problems there.
