That is beautiful, I would love to do their job. Truly, I would love to have my own weather tracking company. Chase tornados and blizzards in winter, tornadoes in spring, and hurricanes and tornadoes summer and fall. Never residing in one place just constantly chasing the next storm. Now the million dollar question is how do you turn that into an operation that sustains itself and makes profit.
Great video on Matthew by Levi. He just recorded this at 7:15. Check out the part about the eye. Good stuff. A bigger eye may be forming while the current eye gets choked off.
Yep, high mountains of Haiti can ring out a lot of rain. Elevations can reach upwards of almost 8,800 ft above sea level. To put that into perspective, the highest peak of North Carolina mountains is around 6,600 ft, which is higher then Mt Washington in New Hampshire and the highest peak East of the Mississippi River.
This is why Haiti/Hispaniola as a whole, is also knicknamed the Hurricane Shredder...if storm goes over or too close to the central mountains then the storm will be the one taking the beating.
For Haiti its even more susceptible to tropical systems getting even just a little close because of high deforestation rates from use as a fuel source. Leaves all those hill and mountain sides completely open to mudslides...nothing holding soil in place.
I will be surprised if there is not a high loss of life there from this storm.
I really hope this guy turns out to sea. We've had so much rain/flooding lately we can't handle more. Never mind the wind, tidal surge, and other risks.
