I wonder if Neil Diamond could have foreseen today's problems with illegal immigrants before he recorded this song. Well the people that made this video have some great pictures to go along with the words of the song showing so much of what used to be the normal entry method used by immigrants who never looked back because they were in the home they wanted for themselves and their children for the rest of their lives.
I think that it would be nice to force all illegals to watch these scenes at Ellis Island so they could see what they missed, just before starting them on their trip back to their legal homes.
I'm 2nd generation American, and my grandparents had to pass through Ellis Island. The requirements were strict and many were turned away. My grandparents ALWAYS instilled how important it was that they had all of their arrangements in order - job waiting, place to stay, etc. Others they knew were not admitted for lack of same.
You're a self proclaimed history teacher and you don't know the difference between Neil Armstrong and Neil Diamond?
I have been on a 5 1/2 day forced suspension and maybe just a bit of a mistake could be survived by you. Oh well any excuse to avoid the link if very good for you.
I don't have to proclaim that I am an old man and susceptible to mistakes like that one, as huge as it is.

Nah, I watched it. Didn't find it all that interesting.
I, for one, am not a huge fan of overly patriotic pop songs. To me it just says 'I'm taking advantage of the emotional mood of a country to rake in millions of dollars!!!' which I suppose is capitalism at it's finest.
I dislike most neo-country songs for the same reason.
