(TULSA, Okla.) November 7 – Priests are pledging to go to jail if that's what it takes to protect illegal immigrants from the immigration crackdown.

Last Thursday House Bill 1804 went into effect, requiring legal documentation for any immigrant to live or work in the state.

About half of the Eastern Oklahoma Catholic Diocese is Hispanic, that's about 60,000 Catholic parishioners.

I am not that concerned over the impact of the Catholic Church these days------they are basically a shell of what they once were.

Between the priest sexual abuse scandals and the general diminishing membership of that religion; I doubt that the Catholics today would wish to further endanger themselves protecting a bunch of illegal immigrants------besides, many Hispanics today are Protestants.

The church should not get involved with government issues, such as harboring illegals. The Catholic Church should pay taxes, for all the messing around they do interfering with U.S. laws.

Any church found to shelter illegal aliens should immediately lose their non-taxable status. They have entered into politics and crossed the line between church and state.

in our county in florida the catholic church has done everything it can to encourage illegal aliens to move here and to harbor them. they are building an extension to the church with the money that they have brought in. it is all about money with the catholic church and they don't care what happens to the rest of us. i am a christian but if the church gets involved then they need to lose their tax-exempt status because they are functioning as a business entity.

I'm a Catholic, and The Church is NOT protecting Hispanics---many of them feel very UNprotected. The Church is protecting illegal immigrants, not Hispanics.

As a socially liberal guy, one of the reasons I'm not for "open borders" and am not happy about the influx of poor Catholic Central Americans is that they bring with them conservative social values that don't jive with my vision of social libertarianism.

Selfish? Maybe.

Great point, cousinsal.

Once any church chooses to become involved with "political issues" they should lose their tax exempt status, immediately.

Simply put, these Church Groups are aiding and abetting common criminals and should be dealt with accordingly!
