It appears that Hurricane Ike is now heading to Illegal Alien rich Southern TX. Should they allow illegal aliens to evacuate using government buses and stay at public shelters without fear of arrest?

I have mixed feelings. If the hurricane hits the area prior to the evacuation, I don’t believe in denying anyone shelter from the storm, irrespective of immigration status. However, if illegals are out of harm’s way, and encounter ICE, I agree with the above posters, they should be apprehended.

Agreed: hence my use of the word 'known' in my post.
how would you tell if they are illegal? you would have to ask everyone for papers? how many people from katrina actually had papers on them?
great idea, then i think we should ask all the black men for further ID to check if they have any warrants. i mean we've already started racial profiling, lets just take it a step further and get the blacks too. [sarcasm]
trying to figure out who is who, would be difficult and an impediment to the rescue efforts. first and foremost get people the help they need. if you tried to get the illegals it would create a bigger headache. you would still have to segregate the population and house them somewhere. its not like if the hurricane is gunna wait for ICE to finish its papers check. it makes no sense.
what would make sense is that when people begin to return ask them for papers. you could net a whole bunch of people that way. but to do it while the hurricane is barelling down on them is a bit inhumane.
wait till afterwards. how thats done... might be logistically difficult to the highest degree but its possible.
should they deploy ICE to the hurricane ravaged areas to check for illegals? not at all. that makes no sense what so ever. and eventhen. well i lost my papers in the storm. then they slip away into the night. during a hurricane would make no sense.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the scenarios you mentioned. I certainly did not imply that illegals should be denied humane treatment. I think your suggestion to check status upon returning, is feasible.
You have to get them out of harm's way first but I would imagine you would need ID at the evacuation refuge, so maybe that would be the place to find out if they have stolen or fraudulent SS cards and other government documents.
