How is Singapore doing compared to Chicago with half the population and 10,000 confirmed cases? Or NYC with its 125,000 confirmed cases?

IL. has done a pretty good job I'd say. I'll even give pritzker credit for some of his doings. I just wish he'd quit trying to be macho for his liberal backers by knocking Trump every chance he gets. He got just about everything he asked for from the Feds but he wants to put on a show as being tough. Same for lightfoot.

Whats ironic is Pritzker listens to science when it comes to covid...but ignores math when it comes to pensions. Not to change the subject tho.

Trump was alerted to this back in November and dismissed it. Illinois and most other states have not even peaked yet. The numbers have been lower precisely because of the precautions put in place. This virus can also do permanent damage to peoples lungs. Many of the victims are younger and healthy. Aside from the older population, there are millions of people with health issues and compromised immune systems, heart disease, diabetes, HIV, chemo/cancer treatments, asthma.

What number of deaths are you comfortable with ..... 100,000, 300,000, 1,000,000?

Opening up too soon will be akin to having a designated pee area in your swimming pool.

Yes, and part of our issue is that we still don’t have enough tests. We have about 1/3 the population of Louisiana but have run about the same number of tests. Until we can get more testing, we aren’t going to know how many people are infected. In many cases, they might just test one person in a house and assume everyone else is fine unless they are high risk or are likely to need treatment. Until we are to the point where everyone who wants a test can get one, there is no way to know how many people are infected.

Speaking of which, Louisiana typically has pretty warm/humid weather and it has almost as many cases as IL, so I don’t know that the virus doesn’t do well in warm/humid weather. FL also has almost as many cases as IL and many cities are starting to reopen beaches for activities other than sunbathing, so we will see if there are more cases again. I am not sure how they can enforce that since there are many areas where there is no parking for entry and you basically just have to walk/bike. Unless they actually have people patrolling, it would be easy enough to get to those areas with some effort. They are usually not as crowded, but may be now with people stuck inside so long.

In Illinois for those under age 50 there are approx. 15,000 confirmed cases and 100 deaths (https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/covid19-statistics) . That's less than 0.7% fatality rate. Due to lack of testing and mild / asymptomatic symptoms many don't get tested so you can likely multiply covid cases for those under age 50 by 5x-10x. So say 100k cases to use round numbers...with the same 100 deaths...that's a fatality rate of 0.1%.

No state has ever shut down the whole economy for any other cause of death to save 100 people. It's time to reopen the state for those under age 50.

Seems like a pretty minimal impact and certainly not something to be relied upon. And hey, that's only for about 6 months out of the year. I guess we'll find out soon - Florida, Texas, etc. should soon be rid of the virus, if that's all it takes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There might be a silver lining on this.
If UV/B rays are proven to reduce the lifespan of Covid virus', there are many commercial sized units that do just that.

These are easily installed in existing HVAC systems.

It's also time for the local news readers to report news instead of only virus topics. It's getting old hearing the same reports over and over. There has to be other things happening that we should know about. Who cares who's waving a flashlight from their balcony or putting a chalk message on the sidewalk ? Time to get back to normal. Nothing wrong with reporting new cases or deaths but we really don't have to know about every one.

That would bring age discrimination lawsuits, not going to happen.
Either open it, or don't.

No to mention that there are nearly the same number of cases for those under 40. Many deaths in this age group too. The age thing just doesn't hold true. Older people in general are at greater risk for any disease, but given how many people under 40 haven gotten this and died, there won't be any decisions based on age. EVERYONE is at risk!

Which is why everything will continue to be shutdown for the forseeable future.
