Indy has some good ethnic diversity in restaurants but its not rampant. Most of the good choices are downtown or in the northern burbs. Out here on the west side the ethnic restaurants dont fare to well (except for Mexican). If you dont have mashed potatoes and gravy on the menu you wont be in business long. =)

Pjstroh must be talking about the western suburbs (Plainfield, Avon), because within the Indianapolis city limits on the west side are a ton of ethnic restaurants--probably the highest concentration in the whole metro. The area around Lafayette Square may seem dicey, but it's fine for the most part if what you're seeking are interesting cuisines. Strip malls there are hardly beautiful, but some of the food inside them is excellent.
