Hey, we agree on something.

Elija Poole (Elija Muhammad) had virtually no knowledge of Islam except what he heard from a Mysterious Wallace Fard Muhammad. Who is a bit difficult to find historically. Any how Mr Fard founded a religion that was in competition with the "Moorish Science Temple of America" which he was a misister of. In 1934 after some legal issues Mr Fard vanished and Elijah Poole took the name Elijah Muhammad and control as the Prophet of the new religion.

It is very loosely based upon the Qur'an and did not Identify as being Muslim until after several name changes.

It is best known for it's large prison Ministry, To a large degree it is what many Americans believe to be Islam. As they are not Muslims they are unable to enter Mecca for Hajj. Some do convert to Islam when they attempt to do the Hajj. The most famous being Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali.

I remember what brought Malcom X under fire, was when he did visit Saudi Arabia and got a first hand look at Islam and converted to real Islam.

This rubbed feathers the wrong way back home.

This is not intended to pass Judgement. One must keep in mind during the Early Days segregation was the dominate law of the land. Elijah Muhammad taught his religion was for only non-white people of African Ancestry. Whites could not be a member. When it started asserting it was Islam and tried to incorporate the 5 pillars, those that tried to go on Hajj discovered Muslims came from every color possible. Those that decided to convert to Sunni sort of lost favor with the NOI.

Just saw that on Newsr.

I wonder if the Air force bases are still there. I refueled several times at a base near Ankara in the early 1960s. can't remember the name of it.

Just did a check, we currently have 2 bases in Turkey, any air strikes from Turkey would be from Incirlik. Seems we been doing such for a couple months.

Quote:
The strikes in Syria under consideration could be launched from a number of bases in the Persian Gulf from which the United States is operating to hit Islamic State targets in Iraq. U.S. military officials have not identified those bases, citing diplomatic sensitivities with the countries involved. But they likely include al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Ali al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, as this Washington Post story last month outlined. Predator drones and other U.S. aircraft also are likely flying from Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, and the U.S. military also visits Jordanian bases on occasion.

The U.S. has carried out an average of five airstrikes a day in Iraq over the last month
, setting an operational framework for how the mission could be expanded into Syria. But Syria’s closer proximity to the Mediterranean Sea may provie some other options, including fighter jets or AC-130 gunship planes taking off from military bases in Europe.
SOURCE

Sounds to me we have found better locations to make the strikes from and no longer need to use Turkey. Turkey in turn decided to use this for a Political statement. They come out smelling like a rose in the region for standing up to the US. the US gains as it will now be difficult to determine where the strikes are originating from. Just My opinion.

Turkey is part of NATO and there is a US base already there.

But they will not let us use it to strike ISIS.

A little bit of selective wording on the part of Turkey. Seems they have no objection over them using the bases as a launch point for strikes against ISIS in Iraq. It is strikes in Syria they oppose. But that may be simply a diplomatic statement on Turkey's part as it seems we had planned to use other bases to launch the Syria strikes from.
