Second, for every one of you who sees a "problem" there are at least a couple of dozen Kansans who see a big plus. The last thing they want is your "solution".

Public transportation is a necessary evil in Manhattan (NY). Kansans thank their lucky stars that they're nowhere near it.
I just googled some pics of Kansas as I never really thought about it much.

It's a pretty place. Very "untouched" and true to its original roots.

Just MAYBE...it SHOULD stay out of reach for those of us from the big cities seeking a sort of "utopia". We'll just come and mess it up, then you'll have a North Dakota problem.

Well, North Dakota has been flooded by people from other states that are looking for jobs out on the oil fields. Google Williston, ND housing shortages as well as the other impacts that include Dickinson and Minot. Oh, the cost of living there has skyrocketed due to the boom there along with the dysfunctional Williston town government being very slow to allow and permit construction of housing.

These are wonderful positives. Seriously.

Now, now. Don't be mean.

I'm not one of those New Yorkers that want to "change" the city I move to into another NY. Please believe I don't want that AT ALL! NYC in its current state is a DISASTER to anyone not making over $500,000 a year.

Can you survive in the state or the main cities without a car? Is public transportation pretty decent?
Okay, I'll be nice.

Most places you are going to want a car. There may be areas that you could get by okay without a car, but our public transportation is nothing like New York. We are spread out. To me, that's a good thing. We don't have all the people and housing and building packed into a square mile that you have in New York. So to get where you want to go, you will probably want/need to drive sometimes.

We have tornados in Kansas. It's just not the big deal that everybody thinks it is. California has earthquakes, but that doesn't mean everybody in California is going to be in an earthquake at some point. You could live here all your life, like me, and never see a tornado. We have basements. If you are in the path of a tornado, you go to the basement until the tornado warning is over. Yeah, you could be in a tornado, but more than likely you won't be.

Depends on what "utopia" is for you. What are you looking for?

But...we don't want more transit. If I wanted more people/more transit, I'd move to St. Louis, Chicago, or Minneapolis. I would hate living any of those places.

I don't dislike K-State (as opposed to Mizzou - which I hate!). But KU is my alma mater. Rock Chalk!

Actually, internet in a lot of areas in KS is too expensive especially if you live in the rural areas so many people don't have access for that reason and many, many people are older and do not use the technology.
Seriously?
Where does this stuff come from??

Maybe this was true 10 or 15 years ago, but even my grandma is on Facebook...

Granted, I haven't heard anything negative about the state, but in all honesty, no one talks about it all, at least in NYC. Nor do we speak of moving to Iowa, Idaho, Montana or Missouri. We consider these the tumbleweed or flyover states.

Also, the tornado thing could get quite annoying just like the hurricanes are to Florida.
Probably nothing, if you like living in NYC. We don't live a fast paced high rise designer lifestyle. We have elbow room, peace and quiet, and down to earth people. You'd be bored in a day here. If I had to live in an apartment I'd feel caged. It's not that either place is better, it's just better if you're living in the right place for you.

As for internet, I've had it in SW KS since 1996. It's always been affordable. We have cell phones here too

We don't have mass transit here, which means we don't have to ride to work with anyone we don't want to! LOL
