I don't like the highway patrol who set up speed traps on the 215 highway. They just camp out near Durango on the 45 mph zone and try to catch people who are just coming from the section that is 55 mph. I got a speeding ticket for going 50 mph and had to pay like $200.

I also don't like the roads. There are lines on the roads that are not completely covered or erased and if you follow them, you can easily end up in the wrong lane. The drivers are pretty bad as well. It seems like there are lots of angry drivers who care more about their pride staying ahead of you, rather than the safety of the roads. Not to mention drunk drivers coming from casinos.

Well, since I'm "educated" I went back through the thread and everyone seems to be talking about what they dislike so your point is???

I think he was referring to himself. The "hehehe" kind of gave it away.

It's odd to me if someone lists weather, I mean you do realize Vegas weather is some of the best in the U.S. don't you? The weather in most cities is borderline uninhabitable. I guess you could argue that the weather in Vegas in July and August is pretty intolerable (luckily I have a Northern escape planned for those months, lol) but the rest of the year is pretty great weather. It's cold in December and January by, say, Los Angeles standards, but compared to most places it's still pretty nice. Livable anyway.

It would really bother me if I was living in Vegas hearing people complain about how much it sucks. Especially because coming from L.A., which in fact does suck, to a city that is basically perfect in many ways, they really should move somewhere else and figure out how much most cities suck. If you don't like Vegas, basically I don't know what to say, because it's hard to find a better city in the U.S.

This is correct. Especially the part about LA sucking and Vegas not sucking.

This is the problem for me in the summer: Stuck in a 2 story house. Computers upstairs. Have to sleep upstairs since that's where the bedrooms are. It gets so hot upstairs in the summer, from May to October. Downstairs is excellent, always cool. We conserve like crazy with the a/c since we really cannot afford power bills of $500+.
I don't mind the heat while out and about the valley, it's just upstairs that it really gets to me! I get tired of being drenched in sweat. That's all.

And before anyone pipes up with "you can always move." No we can't. Stuck in a home that is worth less than what we paid. We are not the type to just walk away. So we stay and tough it out.

Default Yes

I can completely see how that would be miserable! Personally, well, let me start by saying you're way braver than I am. I cannot sleep in heat. I cannot sleep even in average temperatures. If it's 70 that's way too hot for me to sleep, has to be about 65 to 68. Ideally right around 65 to 66 is the sweet spot. If I was absolutely exhausted I'm sure I could fall asleep if it was 72 or less, but I've been absolutely exhausted before in a place that was like 75 to 77 and I didn't sleep all night. It's just not possible. Sleeping weather is meant to be very cool. I also can't sleep without some type of blanket, so if it's average temperature it's essentially going to be too hot. It would be weird, for instance, just falling asleep on top of a mattress with no blanket lol.

I hear the A/C bills during the summer in Vegas can be completely ridiculous. This is one reason why I would never buy a house in Vegas, only a condo. Houses are very, very energy inefficient almost no matter how they're constructed, partially because they're big, but also because they are self-contained. You take a condo building with steel and concrete architecture and combine that with double-pane windows and you have a recipe for keeping heat in and air in, not to mention that most newer construction buildings probably adhere to LEED Green standards and have a Silver or Gold rating in energy efficiency and you're going to have a lot lower electricity bills haha.

I can't imagine the kind of energy bill I'd probably run in the summer in Vegas if I was actually living there. Considering I have about 8 power strips in my tiny 920 sq. foot condo (two full surround speaker setups, computer, three RAID units attached, numerous external hard drives, disc printer, color inkjet oversized printer, black and white laser printer / scanner / copier / fax, three video game systems, 5-DVD changer, cable TV box, etc., etc.), and probably use a ton of power (I have no clue, we don't do that here, HOA pays all electricity bills for the building and we pay into the HOA equally), I can only imagine that my bill would be high in a house, haha.

When I was thinking of moving to Vegas, probably the biggest thing I thought about besides being further from the film industry was the hot summers. But I pretty much immediately discounted that because I was already thinking how in the future I'd like to spend more of my summers up in Portland, which despite my general feeling towards the weather in that city, I must admit it has the best summers I think you will find in the U.S. Most of the country is stuck with hot, humid summers, often full of bugs, sometimes daily thunderstorms, or even in places like L.A. you get frequent hazy days to begin every single day and go until 11, noon, 1 p.m. easily. Then you take a place like L.A. and consider it's by-comparison pathetically short days and I really don't believe you'll find better summer weather than Portland, where at least once it is summer (July 4th and later, basically), you're going to get 75 to 90 degrees every day, light until almost 10 p.m., gentle breeze, cool nights but not cold, and at least where we live an incredible view with amazing sunsets that can't be beat. So once I realized, hey, I work for myself, I don't depend on being anywhere specific, I could go up to Portland more often during the summers, that also made me realize I could live in Vegas not in L.A., and then I had it figured out that my dream is not to live in one city but in several cities, depending what season, and I'm going to give it that preliminary test this summer when I go back to Portland haha.

With any luck I'll find my place in Vegas sometime early summer and get the deal closed by September or so.
